Evaporation cooling of vineyards

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1970
Effective crop cooling of vineyards was obtained with the use of small amounts of water, intermittently applied through overhead sprinklers. The light sprinkling cooled the air, raised the humidity, and cooled the plants. Sprinklers functioning on 3-minute on and 15-minute off periods cooled the air by 7 to 10 degrees and raised the humidity 10 to 20 ...

Scalable Thermal Engineering via Femtosecond Laser‐Direct‐Written Phononic Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that femtosecond laser‐induced periodic surface structures (fs‐LIPSS) can function as phononic metasurfaces, reducing thermal conductivity below the plain thin‐film limit. Phonon Monte Carlo analysis reveals that the periodic structures restrict phonon mean free paths.

Evaporative cooling of flare plasma [PDF]

open access: yes
A one-dimensional loop model for the evaporative cooling of the coronal flare plasma was investigated. Conductive losses dominated radiative cooling, and the evaporative velocities were small compared to the sound speed.

Asymmetric Contact Engineering for Bottleneck‐Free Transport in 2D MoS2 Field‐Effect Transistor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Performance of 2D semiconductor transistors is limited by carrier transport bottlenecks arising from specific device geometries. By identifying this structural limitation, a bottleneck‐free asymmetric transistor architecture (BATA) is introduced to improve carrier transport.

Experimental Research on a Regenerative Evaporative Cooling System

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2019
Regenerative evaporative cooling is one of the main forms of dew point evaporative cooling. Regenerative evaporative cooling can cool the air below the wet bulb temperature without changing the humidity of air.

High Entropy Wide‐Bandgap Borates with Broadband Luminescence and Large Nonlinear Optical properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
High‐entropy rare‐earth borates exhibit excellent nonlinear optical and broadband luminescence properties arising from multi‐component doping, chemical disorder, increased configurational entropy, and increased lattice and electronic anharmonicity. This formulation enabled us to obtain a large, environmentally stable single crystal with 3X higher laser‐

Multipurpose Transparent Nanocomposites for Gamma Spectroscopy, Pulse Shape Discrimination, Thermal Neutron Detection, Radiation Shielding, and High Refractive Index Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Materials exist that are useful for gamma scintillation, radiation shielding, neutron‐gamma pulse shape discrimination (PSD), thermal neutron detection, or high refractive index applications. While certain materials have exhibited optimal performance for each of these applications, none achieve multiple functions.
