Multi‐Objective Optimization of a Hydro‐Economic Model in an Over‐Allocated Agricultural Basin

open access: yesGroundwater, EarlyView.
Abstract Groundwater depletion for agricultural irrigation poses significant environmental and economic challenges. This study introduces a proof‐of‐concept that combines hydro‐economic modeling, scenario‐based modeling, and multi‐objective optimization to manage pumping curtailment in an over‐allocated basin in the western United States.

Assessing the population structure of Plagioscion squamosissimus (Teleostei, Perciformes, Sciaenidae) from the São Francisco River, Bahia, Brazil, using body morphology and otolith shape signatures

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The south American silver croaker, Plagioscion squamosissimus, holds significant importance for the artisanal fisheries in the sub‐middle and lower courses of the São Francisco River, located in northeastern Brazil. To investigate the population structure of this species along its longitudinal profile, a total of 150 individuals (50 fish per ...

Plastid and nuclear phylogenomics of Cyphostemma (Vitaceae) provide new insights into genome size evolution across sub‐Saharan Africa

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Some African Cyphostemma species evolved much larger genomes as they adapted to dry, rocky habitats. These expansions are linked to succulent traits and specialization on nutrient‐rich limestone outcrops. The findings show how climate‐driven aridification shaped plant evolution and highlight broader genome‐environment patterns across flowering plants ...

Tree growth response and adaptation to climate change and climate extremes: From canopy to stem

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review synthesizes the responses and adaptations of tree growth, including canopy phenology, intra‐annual wood formation dynamics, and annual stem growth, to climate change and climate extremes. It highlights key knowledge gaps for future research to support sustainable forest management and enhance forest carbon storage under ongoing climate ...

Effects of soil moisture on microhabitat selection of two fossorial amphisbaenian reptiles from contrasting environments

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, EarlyView.
Extreme events expected under climate change (prolonged drought or torrential rains) alter soil conditions, yet their effects on fossorial vertebrates remain understudied. We tested substrate selection across moisture levels in two amphisbaenians from contrasting climates: Blanus cinereus (Iberian temperate forest) and Trogonophis wiegmanni (North ...
