Automatic event detection in microblogs using incremental machine learning

open access: yes, 2017
The global popularity of microblogs has led to an increasing accumulation of large volumes of text data on microblogging platforms such as Twitter. These corpora are untapped resources to understand social expressions on diverse subjects.

Adding Priority to Event Structures [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Proceedings in Theoretical Computer Science, 2013
Event Structures (ESs) are mainly concerned with the representation of causal relationships between events, usually accompanied by other event relations capturing conflicts and disabling. Among the most prominent variants of ESs are Prime ESs, Bundle ESs, Stable ESs, and Dual ESs, which differ in their causality models and event relations.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Functional Projections and Event Structure

open access: yesKansas Working Papers in Linguistics, 1997
The variable behavior verbs in unaccusative/unergative alternation in Dutch, Italian, and Hebrew led Borer(1993) to deny the "lexical-entrydriven approach.

The "Ridge" in Proton-Proton Scattering at 7 TeV

open access: yes, 2011
One of the most important experimental results for proton-proton scattering at the LHC is the observation of a so-called "ridge" structure in the two particle correlation function versus the pseudorapidity difference $\Delta\eta$ and the azimuthal angle ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Excessive events: The syntax and semantics of OVER-modification in Icelandic

open access: yesGlossa
This paper presents a detailed semantic and accompanying syntactic analysis of predicates denoting events that we describe as ‘excessive’ in Icelandic. Icelandic uses two types of strategies for marking of excess, the preposition yfir complemented by an ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Directionality of the rise of the causative/inchoative alternation with verbs suffixed with -ate, -ize, and -(i)fy

open access: yesStudia Linguistica
This study examines the historical development of the causative/inchoative alternation licensed by English verbs ending in -ate, -ize, and -(i)fy. While lexicalist theories (see, among others, Hale and Keyser 1986, Jackendoff 1990, Levin and Rappaport ...
