A multidisciplinary overview on the Tupi‐speaking people expansion

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Biological Anthropology, Volume 186, Issue 1, January 2025.
Expansion of Tupi linguistic subfamilies. Abstract The cultural and biological diversity of South American indigenous groups represent extremes of human variability, exhibiting one of the highest linguistic diversities alongside a remarkably low within‐population genetic variation and an extremely high inter‐population genetic differentiation.

Effects of an Extreme Weather Event on Primate Populations

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Biological Anthropology, Volume 186, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Objectives With contemporary, human‐induced climate change at a crisis point, extreme weather events (e.g., cyclones, heatwaves, floods) are becoming more frequent, intense, and difficult to predict. These events can wreak rapid and significant changes on ecosystems; thus, it is imperative to understand how wildlife communities respond to ...

Seasonal acclimation of photosynthetic thermal tolerances in six woody tropical species along a thermal gradient

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 38, Issue 11, Page 2493-2505, November 2024.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Extreme heat events are becoming increasingly common, and the short‐term acclimation of photosynthesis will have a large impact on plant performance. Trees in lowland tropical forests, which are hypothesized to have limited abilities to tolerate rising temperatures, may

Differential responses of community‐level functional traits to mid‐ and late‐season experimental drought in a temperate grassland

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 112, Issue 10, Page 2292-2306, October 2024.
These findings suggest that functional trait composition of grassland communities may shift under climate change‐induced drought, depending on the growing season timings. Trait‐based attempts to predict ecosystem functioning must account for such temporal variation in community trait values.

Vertical Distribution of Rocky Intertidal Organisms Shifts With Sea‐Level Variability on the Northeast Pacific Coast

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 30, Issue 10, October 2024.
This study examined whether the vertical distribution of rocky intertidal taxa has shifted with sea‐level variability occurring at multiple temporal scales and/or long‐term anthropogenic sea‐level rise on the Northeast Pacific Coast. We found that intertidal taxa largely do not exhibit significant vertical distribution shifts coherent with short‐term ...
