Eventration of the diaphragm and associations
The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 2007Eventration of the diaphragm, most often an isolated entity and detected incidentally, has been known to be associated with several genetic syndromes. Authors report their experience of seeing diaphragmatic eventration in association with Poland syndrome and wandering spleen syndrome and briefly discuss the literature.

Congenital eventration of the diaphragm
The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 1988Six cases of congenital eventration of the diaphragm are presented. The abnormality was on the left side in all the patients. The clinical presentation and surgical treatment has been discussed. There was no operative mortality or significant morbidity.

Congenital Eventration of the Diaphragm
New England Journal of Medicine, 1954SUCCESSFUL surgical treatment of diaphragmatic hernia dates back a great many years. However, it is only recently that congenital eventration of the diaphragm has been found amenable to surgery. Badenheur,1 in 1879, performed the first laparotomy for congenital diaphragmatic hernia.

This unusual condition may be defined as a marked upward protrusion of one dome of an intact diaphragm into the thoracic cavity. The term in its accepted usage is reserved for those cases of high diaphragm not due to thoracic or abdominal disease or to operative or traumatic interference with the phrenic nerve.

ALTHOUGH MUCH attention and time have been given to the nomenclature, etiology, diagnosis, and management of this condition, "eventration of the diaphragm" remains a controversial subject. Jean Louis Petit is credited with the description of this condition at postmortem examination in 1774.

Eventration of the diaphragm is an abnormal elevation of one or both hemidiaphragms into the thorax. This condition can be congenital or acquired and has a variety of presentations, ranging from an incidental finding on imaging studies to severe respiratory impairment with difficulty weaning from the ventilator.

Eventration of the diaphragm is rare, and because of this fact we feel that every case is worthy of detailed study. It also seems desirable to review the literature. The purpose of this paper is (1) to summarize the available knowledge of the disease with a discussion of the literature and (2) to present reports of 2 cases.

Eventration of the diaphragm is a rare anomaly of obscure origin characterized by the permanent high position of one leaflet of the diaphragm and the displacement into the thorax of the abdominal viscera on the affected side. Bamberger1in 1913 compiled thirty-one cases.
