Asian elephants are associated with a more robust mammalian community in tropical forests

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
It's the first evidence that Asian elephants are positively associated with robustness of mammalian networks, increases ungulate/primate abundances and minimally disrupts activity patterns. Highlights elephants' overlooked role as keystone architects beyond vegetation engineering, urging conservation prioritization to safeguard ecosystem resilience ...

A multi‐source remote sensing approach to identify and predict delayed succession in human‐dominated tropical landscapes

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, EarlyView.
Our study challenges the view that fire prevention alone is sufficient for restoring degraded landscapes. We show successful natural regeneration hinges on nearby remnant woodlands acting as crucial seed sources. This research provides a remote sensing framework to quantify the risk of delayed succession where ecosystems fail to recover within a short ...

Snowmelt timing alters the phenology but not the performance of an understory spring ephemeral plant

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, EarlyView.
Early snowmelt near trees, known as ‘thaw circles’, may lengthen growing seasons and explain why some forest understory plants cluster around trees. However, our field experiment revealed that extended growing seasons with early snowmelt did not improve the performance of a common spring ephemeral plant.
