Evidential Rejection Strategy for Neural Network Classifiers

In this paper we present an approach to estimation of the confidences of competing classification decisions based on the Dempster-Shafer Theory of Evidence. It allows us to utilize information contained in the activations of all output nodes of a neural network, as opposed to just one or two highest, as it is usually done in current literature.

Logophoric Marking and Represented Speech in African Languages as Evidential Hedging Strategies

Logophoric markers are common in two African language families, Niger–Congo and Nilo-Saharan. In addition, they are found in neighbouring Afroasiatic languages. Similar markers have been observed, for example, for Indo-European languages or Japanese.
