The simple geometric ideas of plate theory are extended to include some forms of plate evolution. The most important of these occurs where three plates meet. Such triple junctions are divided into two groups, stable and unstable, according to whether or not they can retain their geometry as the plates move.

The condition for stability at a triple junction of three normally spreading ridges should read: all ridge orientations may be stable if and only if the three ridge elements occupy an angular spread of more than 180°. This consideration leads to the conclusion that, in one mode of formation of an RRR triple junction, at least one active ridge segment ...

KINEMATIC EVOLUTION OF THE CORSICA TRIPLE JUNCTION
The tectonic evolution of Alpine Corsica and surrounding areas is described through a series of 2-D and 3-D plate reconstructions from the onset of the Alpine convergence in the early Cretaceous (~120 Ma) to the early Miocene (~19 Ma). The southward subduction of Eurasian lithosphere beneath Adria and Iberia, and the subduction of Ligurian lithosphere ...

Dynamical evolution of triple systems
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1988The study of the classical three-body problem lasts nearly 300 years. But some concrete examples have been obtained only by computers in the general three-body problem. For the first time, such works were begun at the Astronomical Observatory of Leningrad State University in 1965 by T.A. Agekian and J.P. Anosova, Later V.V.

Dynamical evolution of triple systems
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1986This article reviews numerical experiments on the three-body problem carried out at the Leningrad University Astronomical Observatory during the past 20 years. Systematic studies of triple systems with negative total energy have yielded the following main results.

Evolution of families of double-and triple-periodic orbits
Celestial Mechanics, 1985We study the evolution of the families of double- and triple-periodic orbits in a dynamical system that has closed zero velocity curves for arbitrarily large energies. We find three interesting features: (i) the characteristic \(x=x(h)\) of the family of double periodic orbits divides the (x,h)-plane into two unconnected parts; (ii) there is a sequence

Evolution from double to triple-antimalarial drug combinations
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2014Drug combinations are used to treat multiple-drug resistant malaria parasites and to attempt to further delay the evolution of drug resistance. Most current antimalarial combinations are binary but it is likely that new triple drug combinations will be required in the future.
