ABSTRACT Climate change represents the biggest current challenge for us and for future generations. Its impact on agriculture is undeniable, considering the food security goal. Thus, the cropland footprint has been distinguished as a comprehensive index for assessing the impact of environmental changes in agricultural areas determined by the increased ...

Birth-and-Death Processes in Python: The BirDePy Package
Birth-and-death processes (BDPs) form a class of continuous-time Markov chains that are particularly suited to describing the changes in the size of a population over time.

A perturbation analysis of some Markov chains models with time-varying parameters
We study some regularity properties in locally stationary Markov models which are fundamental for controlling the bias of nonparametric kernel estimators.

A tunable microwave absorption metamaterial inspired by moths evading bat detection
Electromagnetic radiation in the current environment has become complex and uncontrollable due to the advancement of wireless technology. Inspired by the moth surface cilia to bend and evade bat sonar detection, our work introduces a metamaterial incorporating broadband and tunable microwave absorption properties combined with deep learning algorithms.

Optimal Dimension of Transition Probability Matrices for Markov Chain Bootstrapping [PDF]
While the large portion of the literature on Markov chain (possibly of order higher than one) bootstrap methods has focused on the correct estimation of the transition probabilities, little or no attention has been devoted to the problem of estimating ...

Forecasting Natural Gas Prices in Real Time
ABSTRACT This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the forecastability of the real price of natural gas in the United States at the monthly frequency considering a universe of models that differ in complexity and economic content. We find that considerable reductions in mean‐squared prediction error relative to a no‐change benchmark can be ...
