Initial excess pore water pressures induced by tunnelling in soft ground
Journal of Central South University, 2015Tunnelling-induced long-term consolidation settlement attracts a great interest of engineering practice. The distribution and magnitude of tunnelling-induced initial excess pore water pressure have significant effects on the long-term consolidation settlement.

Identifying Consolidation Coefficient: Linear Excess Pore-Water Pressure
Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2008Diagnostic curve methods are developed for simultaneously identifying consolidation coefficient, final settlement, and ratio of top and bottom excess pore-water pressures from observed settlements, in the case of linear excess pore-water pressure. Simple equations are also proposed for estimating consolidation coefficient and final settlement.

Excess pore water pressure caused by the installation of jet grouting columns in clay
Computers and Geotechnics, 2020Abstract The injection of large volumes of pressurized water and grout into the subsoil during jet grouting generates a sudden increase in excess pore water pressure. This study proposes a theoretical approach to evaluate the variation in excess pore water pressure caused by the installation of a jet grouting column in clay, accounting for the ...

Study on the Changing Rule of Excess Pore Water Pressure during Dynamic Compaction
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2011The changing rule of excess pore water pressure during dynamic compaction is important for construction. The following conclusions could be drawn by observing and analyzing the excess pore water pressure in test area. Under ramming strike energy of 2000kN•m, the best hit number during the 1~2 times is 8~9, the best hit number during the third time is 6~

Estimating Consolidation Coefficient and Final Settlement: Triangular Excess Pore-Water Pressure
Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2005The exact analytical solutions for the one-dimensional transient consolidation settlement of clay under triangular loadings of pore-water pressure are presented. Using these solutions, two new methods, a “diagnostic curve” method and a “peak derivative” method are developed for a simultaneous estimation of the coefficient of consolidation and final ...

Consolidated Characteristics and Excess Pore Water Pressures of Mississippi Fan Sediments
1985Examination of the geotechnical properties of the Quaternary sediments from the middle and lower portions of the Mississippi Fan shows that the sediments are normally consolidated to overconsolidated to a depth of 40 to 50 below the seafloor. Beyond that depth, the sediments become highly underconsolidated and exhibit high excess pore water pressures ...

Effect of “Matching” on the Prediction of Excess Pore Water Pressure in Plane Strain Analyses
2018Consolidation analyses of embankments are often conducted on the assumption of the plane strain condition. This poses a problem if the effects of vertical drains (used for accelerating consolidation) are to be modelled. The conditions for the consolidation around vertical drains are close to axial symmetry. “Matching” procedure (Hird et al.
