Identifying Consolidation Coefficient: Linear Excess Pore-Water Pressure
Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2008Diagnostic curve methods are developed for simultaneously identifying consolidation coefficient, final settlement, and ratio of top and bottom excess pore-water pressures from observed settlements, in the case of linear excess pore-water pressure. Simple equations are also proposed for estimating consolidation coefficient and final settlement.

Consolidation Characteristics And Excess Pore Water Pressures Of Mississippi Delta Sediments
Offshore Technology Conference, 1978ABSTRACT The majority of sediment instability problems in the Mississippi delta area of the Gulf of Mexico are related to weak, under consolidated sediments that are subjected to movement by both gravity forces and bottom pressures from storm waves.

Initial excess pore water pressures induced by tunnelling in soft ground
Journal of Central South University, 2015Tunnelling-induced long-term consolidation settlement attracts a great interest of engineering practice. The distribution and magnitude of tunnelling-induced initial excess pore water pressure have significant effects on the long-term consolidation settlement.

Seismic loading impacts on excess pore‐water pressure maintain landslide triggered flowslides
Earth Surface Processes and Landforms, 2008AbstractDuring the 2003 Sanriku‐Minami earthquake, Japan, a flowslide was triggered on a slope of about 13.5º. The displaced landslide mass developed into a flowslide and deposited on a horizontal rice paddy after traveling approximately 130 m. To study the trigger and movement mechanisms of this landslide, field investigation and laboratory ring‐shear

Agitation and its control on excess pore water pressure and debris‐flow behaviour
Earth Surface Processes and Landforms, 2023AbstractExcess water pressure strongly affects the rheology and flow behaviour of debris flows, and the mechanisms for development and persistence of the pressure can be diverse. Using nine experimental slurries prepared with the sediments collected from the deposit of a large‐magnitude debris flow by modifying maximum grain size and solid ...

Simulation of excess pore water pressure during deep soil mixing columns installing
Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University (Science), 2012Most of current studies of deep soil mixing (DSM) methods are focused on the soil strength improvement and soil treatment effectiveness. But the DSM installation leads to excess pore water pressure and soil disturbance, which will bring great harm to adjacent structures, such as shell tunnels and historic buildings.

Estimating Consolidation Coefficient and Final Settlement: Triangular Excess Pore-Water Pressure
Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2005The exact analytical solutions for the one-dimensional transient consolidation settlement of clay under triangular loadings of pore-water pressure are presented. Using these solutions, two new methods, a “diagnostic curve” method and a “peak derivative” method are developed for a simultaneous estimation of the coefficient of consolidation and final ...

Development of Excess Pore Water Pressure around Piles Excited by Pure Vertical Vibration
International Journal of Civil Engineering, 2016In this study, an assessment to excess pore water pressure generated around a single pile and pile group excited by two opposite rotary machines embedded in saturated sandy soil was considered experimentally. A small-scale physical model was manufactured to accomplish the experimental work in the laboratory.

Approximate but accurate, simple invertible equations for the consolidation curves under triangular excess pore-water pressures are developed. These approximations can be used to calculate the degree of consolidation corresponding to a specified time factor (explicit) or the time factor corresponding to a specified degree of consolidation (implicit ...
