The post exercise elevation in resting metabolism has been labeled as the excess post exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC). Different approaches, and a number of exercise manipulations have been employed in order to determine the EPOC response. Variations in exercise duration and intensity received the most attention, and effects of exercise mode, body ...

Relationship of excess post-exercise oxygen consumption to VO₂max and recovery rate
2009The purpose of this study was to examine (i) the relationship between Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC), peak blood lactate [BLa], and a measure of the fast and slow components of recovery (ɽ1 and ɽ2) and aerobic capacity (VO₂max) using three different supramaximal treadmill tests, and (ii) the effects of varying intensity and duration of ...

AIM: In the recovery period after exercise there is an increase in oxygen uptake defined excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC). The magnitude of EPOC after aerobic exercise may depend on duration and intensity of exercise, on type of exercise (split exercise or continuous sessions) and on subjects’ training status and sex.

The relationship between an increased aerobic power and the excess post exercise oxygen consumption
2009As a result of aerobic training, the rate and magnitude of the recovery VO₂ following submaximal exercise at the same absolute workloads is decreased (Hagberg et al., 1980). To date there has been little research associated with the effects of an increased aerobic power on the recovery VO₂ following supramaximal exercise.
