Diagnosis and Screening of Overweight and Obese Children in a Resident Continuity Clinic

open access: yesGlobal Pediatric Health, 2014
Objective . To evaluate the association between documenting excess weight and ordering screening tests. Methods . We retrospectively reviewed well-child visits for patients 2 to 18 years old at a pediatric resident clinic. We evaluated visits of patients

Influence of excess diamine on properties of PMR polyimide resins and composites [PDF]

open access: yes
By varying the stoichiometry of the reactants in the preparation of PMR polyimide resin, changes occur in molecular weight distribution which influence the rheological properties and thus the processability of the resin, as well as the mechanical ...

On moment-density estimation in some biased models

open access: yes, 2006
This paper concerns estimating a probability density function $f$ based on iid observations from $g(x)=W^{-1} w(x) f(x)$, where the weight function $w$ and the total weight $W=\int w(x) f(x) dx$ may not be known.

FGFR Like1 drives esophageal cancer progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and notch signalling: insights from clinical data and next‐generation sequencing analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.

The role of lipid metabolism in neuronal senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Disrupted lipid metabolism, through alterations in lipid species or lipid droplet accumulation, can drive neuronal senescence. However, lipid dyshomeostasis can also occur alongside neuronal senescence, further amplifying tissue damage. Delineating how lipid‐induced senescence emerges in neurons and glial cells, and how it contributes to ageing and ...

A Mesoscopic Resonating Valence Bond system on a triple dot

open access: yes, 2006
We introduce a mesoscopic pendulum from a triple dot. The pendulum is fastened through a singly-occupied dot (spin qubit). Two other strongly capacitively islands form a double-dot charge qubit with one electron in excess oscillating between the two low ...

Alcohol‐induced altered glycans in human tracheal epithelial cells promote bacterial adhesion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Alcohol induces altered glycans to promote bacteria adhesion. Heavy alcohol drinking is known to increase the risk of bacterial pneumonia. However, the link between alcohol levels and risk of infection remains underexplored. Recently, we found that alcohol induced α2‐6sialo mucin O‐glycans in human tracheobronchial epithelial cells, which mediated the ...
