Does excess body weight accelerate immune aging?

open access: yesExperimental Gerontology
Background: Overweight and obesity in older adults increase the risk of a range of comorbidities by sustaining chronic inflammation and thus enhancing immunosenescence.

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

Entropy of polydisperse chains: solution on the Husimi lattice

open access: yes, 2013
We consider the entropy of polydisperse chains placed on a lattice. In particular, we study a model for equilibrium polymerization, where the polydispersivity is determined by two activities, for internal and endpoint monomers of a chain.

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Understanding excess body weight: New Zealand Health Survey [PDF]

open access: yes
Explores the increase in obesity over a 36 year period to 2013 and investigates the impact of obesity on different birth cohorts. Summary Obesity is New Zealand’s leading modifiable risk factor for health loss.

Double Burden of Malnutrition Among Undergraduates in Ogun State Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Coexistence of under and over nutrition among the same population group is referred to as the double burden of malnutrition. The objective of this study was to assess double burden of malnutrition among undergraduate students in Ogun State Nigeria.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.
