Density-dependent effects on the survival and growth of the rodent stomach worm Protospirura muricola in laboratory mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The spirurid nematode, Protospirura muricola, is of intrinsic interest as a rodent model of gastric nematode infections. Since worm burdens can be very heavy in nature, density dependent processes may constrain parasite growth. Laboratory mice (BKW) were

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Single vs Repeated Treatment with the Intragastric Balloon: A 5-Year Weight Loss Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Saline-filled intragastric balloons (IB) may be inserted for 6months to promote weight loss. We aimed to assess potential benefits of repeating IB therapy. Methods: One hundred eighteen consecutive subjects (median body mass index, 34.0kg/m2;

Influence of irrigation conditions in the germination of plasma treated Nasturtium seeds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Plasma treatments had emerged as a useful technique to improve seed germination. In this work we investigate the influence of different irrigation conditions and plasma treatments on the germination of nasturtium seeds.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Variação do percentual da perda do excesso de peso no pós-operatório tardio dos pacientes obesos mórbidos submetidos ao bypass gastrointestinal em y de roux [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: During follow-up in the late postoperative period of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery (RYGBP), it is clinically demonstrated that many patients regain weight.

Using maximum weight to redefine body mass index categories in studies of the mortality risks of obesity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BACKGROUND: The high prevalence of disease and associated weight loss at older ages limits the validity of prospective cohort studies examining the association between body mass index (BMI) and mortality.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.
