Flow organization and heat transfer in turbulent wall sheared thermal convection [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Fluid Mech. 906, A26 (2021), 2019
We perform direct numerical simulations of wall sheared Rayleigh-B\'enard (RB) convection for Rayleigh numbers up to $Ra=10^8$, Prandtl number unity, and wall shear Reynolds numbers up to $Re_w=10000$. Using the Monin-Obukhov length $L_{MO}$ we identify three different flow states, a buoyancy dominated regime ($L_{MO} \lesssim \lambda_{\theta}$; with $\

Bioengineering facets of the tumor microenvironment in 3D tumor models: insights into cellular, biophysical and biochemical interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Violation of Ericksen inequalities in lyotropic chromonic liquid crystals [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
By analyzing elastic theory for nematic liquid crystals, we distinguish three regimes of elastic constants. In one regime, the Ericksen inequalities are satisfied, and the ground state of the director field is uniform. In a second regime, certain necessary inequalities are violated, and the free energy is thermodynamically unstable.

Hydrophobicity causes anomalous migration of cystine/glutamate antiporter SLC7A11 in SDS‐PAGE with low acrylamide concentration

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
SLC7A11 frequently migrates faster in SDS‐PAGE. The present study found that the high hydrophobicity of SLC7A11 causes its anomalous migration in SDS‐PAGE with a low concentration of acrylamide gel. Replacing isoleucine with asparagine reduced hydrophobicity and restored its normal migration at 55 kDa, revealing the role of hydrophobicity and gel ...

Regimes of electronic transport in doped InAs nanowire [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
We report on the low temperature measurements of the magnetotransport in Si-doped InAs quantum wire in the presence of a charged tip of an atomic force microscope serving as a mobile gate, i.e. scanning gate microscopy (SGM). By altering the carrier concentration with back gate voltage, we transfer the wire through several transport regimes: from ...

Crossover from one to three dimensions for a gas of hard-core bosons [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Lett. 89, 110402 (2002), 2002
We develop a variational theory of the crossover from the one-dimensional (1D) regime to the 3D regime for ultra-cold Bose gases in thin waveguides. Within the 1D regime we map out the parameter space for fermionization, which may span the full 1D regime for suitable transverse confinement.

KCS1 and VIP1, the genes encoding yeast phosphoinositol pyrophosphate synthases, are required for Ca2+‐mediated response to dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO)

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Ca2+‐mediated response to DMSO was investigated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells expressing Ca2+‐dependent aequorin. Cell exposure to DMSO induced a cytosolic Ca2+ wave dependent on the integrity of the Cch1/Mid1 channel. Deletion of KCS1 or VIP1 genes encoding the phosphoinositol pyrophosphate (PP‐IP) synthases suppressed the DMSO‐induced Ca2 ...

PELEMAHAN RUPIAH: MANAJEMEN NILAI TUKAR INDONESIA DAN PELAJARAN DARI MASA LALU

open access: yesJurnal Keuangan dan Perbankan, 2016
World ecomonic trend in 2008 has decreased significantly after growing rapidly for a decade (world economic growth up to 2007 was 5.2%). Global contraction happened because of United States and Europe performance decreasing.

Regime-dependent drivers of the EUR/CHF exchange rate

open access: yesSwiss Journal of Economics and Statistics, 2023
We analyze drivers of the EUR/CHF exchange rate in different regimes between 2000 and 2020. Structural breaks between these subperiods are estimated in an integrated way together with the drivers that are relevant during these subperiods.

Examining the Effect of Monetary Policy and Monetary Policy Uncertainty on Cryptocurrencies Market [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
This study investigates the influence of monetary policy and monetary policy uncertainties on Bitcoin returns, utilizing monthly data of BTC, and MPU from July 2010 to August 2023, and employing the Markov Switching Means VAR (MSM-VAR) method. The findings reveal that Bitcoin returns can be categorized into two distinct regimes: 1) regime 1 with low ...
