Magnetic ordering of itinerant systems; the role of kinetic exchange interaction

open access: yes, 2004
The possibility of ferromagnetic ordering is revisited in the band model. The coherent potential approximation decoupling has been used for the strong on-site Coulomb interaction.

Sustainable bioplastics manufacturing from renewable sources

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioplastics are manufactured by using polymers from different bio‐based sources. These novel materials not only offer biodegradability but also possess various functional properties that make them suitable for diverse applications. Recent developments in the preparation of bioplastics are reported, highlighting the distinct properties of each type of ...

Magnetic orders and topological phases from f-d exchange in pyrochlore iridates

open access: yes, 2012
We study theoretically the effects of f-d magnetic exchange interaction in the R$_2$Ir$_2$O$_7$ pyrochlore iridates. The R$^{3+}$ f-electrons form localized magnetic doublets due to the crystal field environment, while the Ir$^{4+}$ d- electrons are more

Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...

Cooperative Atomic Mechanism of Emergent Tilted Magnetic Anisotropy

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials
Understanding the atomic origin of magnetic anisotropy is of paramount importance for designing advanced magnetic materials for the next generation of magnetic and spintronic technologies. The Ru‐substituted La0.70Sr0.30MnO3 (Ru‐LSMO) system has recently

Signatures of exchange correlations in the thermopower of quantum dots

open access: yes, 2010
We use a many-body rate-equation approach to calculate the thermopower of a quantum dot in the presence of an exchange interaction. At temperatures much smaller than the single-particle level spacing, the known quantum jumps (discontinuities) in the ...

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Does Real Exchange Rate Volatility Affect Sectoral Trade Flows? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper investigates empirically the effect of real exchange rate volatility on sectoral bilateral trade flows between the US and her top thirteen trading countries. Our investigation also considers those effects on trade flows which may arise through

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status
