Excited State Frequencies of Chlorophyll f and Chlorophyll a and Evaluation of Displacement through Franck-Condon Progression Calculations

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
We present ground and excited state frequency calculations of the recently discovered extremely red-shifted chlorophyll f. We discuss the experimentally available vibrational mode assignments of chlorophyll f and chlorophyll a which are characterised by ...

Hot excited state management for long-lived blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Since their introduction over 15 years ago, the operational lifetime of blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PHOLEDs) has remained insufficient for their practical use in displays and lighting. Their short lifetime results from annihilation

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

On the Ionization Tolerance of C20 Fullerene in Ground and Excited Electronic States in Planetary Nebulae

open access: yesGalaxies
As the smallest member of the fullerene family, C20 is yet to be discovered in planetary nebulae. In this work, we present a quantum chemical study via density functional theory (DFT) and partially by the MP2 on the ionization tolerance of this molecule ...

Correlated-electron description of the photophysics of thin films of $\pi$-conjugated polymers

open access: yes, 2009
We extend Mulliken's theory of ground state charge transfer in a donor-acceptor complex to excited state charge transfer between pairs of identical $\pi$-conjugated oligomers, one of which is in the optically excited state and the other in the ground ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

State-Dependent Optical Lattices for the Strontium Optical Qubit

open access: yes, 2020
We demonstrate state-dependent optical lattices for the Sr optical qubit at the tune-out wavelength for its ground state. We tightly trap excited state atoms while suppressing the effect of the lattice on ground state atoms by more than four orders of ...

Molecular Engineering of Excited-state Intramolecular Proton Transfer (ESIPT) Dual and Triple Emitters

open access: yesChemistry Letters, 2018
Excited-State Intramolecular Proton Transfer (ESIPT)-capable emitters have been in the limelight in the past few years owing to their atypical photophysical features paving the way to the engineering of innovative applications.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.
