FORCE FREQUENCY SHIFTING FOR STRUCTURAL EXCITATION

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1999
This paper develops concepts and equations for the characterisation of a frequency shifting force shaker which can be employed to excite low frequency structures into resonance. Force which is developed at a high frequency can be employed for excitation at a very low frequency.

Open-loop band excitation Kelvin probe force microscopy

Nanotechnology, 2012
A multidimensional scanning probe microscopy approach for quantitative, cross-talk free mapping of surface electrostatic properties is demonstrated. Open-loop band excitation Kelvin probe force microscopy (OL BE KPFM) probes the full response-frequency-potential surface at each pixel at standard imaging rates.

Exciting-Force Operators for Ship Propellers

Journal of Hydronautics, 1971
The unsteady transfer functions or vibratory-exciting force and moment operators for any ship propeller are found by a procedure which employs an existing computer program. These functions can then be applied to any given radial variation of a spatially varying hull wake or inflow to yield three forces, three moments, and the blade bending moments ...

Water waves excited by near-impulsive wind forcing

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2017
Only limited information is currently available on the evolution of waves generated by wind that varies in time, and in particular on the initial stages of wind–wave growth from rest under a suddenly applied wind forcing. The emerging wind–wave field varies in time as well as in space.

A comparative experimental study on sample excitation and probe excitation in force modulation atomic force microscopy

Measurement Science and Technology, 2013
Probe dynamics and imaging characteristics of force modulation atomic force microscopy (FMM) with either sample excitation or probe excitation were investigated and compared experimentally. In both acoustic excitation methods, the contact resonance frequency of the probe is usually masked by spurious frequency peaks, which may cause difficulties in ...

Axonal excitability measured by tracking twitch contraction force

Muscle & Nerve, 2004
AbstractThe present study addressed whether the excitability of motor axons could be documented by tracking a target submaximal contraction force rather than a target submaximal compound muscle action potential (CMAP). In 10 subjects, multiple excitability measures were recorded using the Trond protocol, tracking twitch contraction force and the CMAP ...

Forcing of Compressible Mixing Layers Using Laser Excitation

AIAA Journal, 1998
An innovative method of controlling and forcing the creation of large roller-type structures in compressible mixing layers is presented. A laser beam from a pulsed Nd:YAG laser is focused on the nozzle exit of axisymmetric supersonic jets with Mach numbers of 1.36 and 2, resulting in convective Mach numbers of 0.63 and 0.85 ...
