Self-excited vibrations in turning: forces torsor analysis [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2008
The present work deals with determining the necessary parameters considering a three dimensional model to simulate in a realistic way the turning process on machine tool. This paper is dedicated to the study of the self-excited vibrations incidence on various major mechanics characteristics of the system workpiece / tool / material. The efforts (forces

Hydrodynamics of a Free Floating Vertical Axisymmetric Oscillating Water Column Device

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2012
This paper aims at presenting a general formulation of the hydrodynamic problem of a floating or restrained oscillating water column device. Three types of first-order boundary value problems are investigated in order to calculate the velocity potential ...

Vibrations Excited by Statistically Fluctuating Forces [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1964
The response of a mechanical vibrator to statistical forces can be computed by Fourier methods on the basis of the natural-mode solution or with the aid of the pulse response of the system. The second method leads to a convolution type integral of the time functions as they correspond to the factors in the integrand of the Fourier integral obtained by ...

Prediction of Ship Turning Maneuvers in Constant Wind and Regular Waves

open access: yesInternational Journal of Technology, 2017
A ship usually performs maneuvers under the influence of external forces and moments, such as wind, waves, and current. Therefore, it is important to understand the maneuvering behavior of ships under the action of external forces.

Blade Vibration Measurements and Excitation Force Evaluation

open access: yes, 2015
Tip timing blade vibration measuring systems have become nowadays common for monitoring blade vibrations, due to rather easy and non-intrusive installation of sensors. The data collected by the sensors must be heavily processed in order to get the vibration time histories of all blades at rated speed or during a run up or run down transient.

Two coupled quasiperiodic generators excited by external force

open access: yesTechnical Physics, 2022
A system of two dissipatively coupled generators, which can exhibit autonomous quasiperiodic oscillations, excited by a harmonic signal, is studied. Lyapunov charts are presented that reveal the regimes of invariant tori of different dimensions and chaos. Phase portraits in stroboscopic section and double Poincare section are presented.

Subharmonic resonance and chaos in forced excitable systems [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Biology, 1999
Forced excitable systems arise in a number of biological and physiological applications and have been studied analytically and computationally by numerous authors. Existence and stability of harmonic and subharmonic solutions of a forced piecewise-linear Fitzhugh-Nagumo-like system were studied in Othmer ad Watanabe (1994) and in Xie et al. (1996). The

Excitation Lifetimes and Excited-State Forces in Chemisorbed Molecules

open access: yes, 1990
Quantum-state populations and yields for the highest probability (neutral desorbate) channels are now available by laser resonance-ionization spectroscopy (RIS) [1,2], thus providing an unprecedented opportunity for theoretical progress in electron-stimulated desorption (ESD).

Wave Forces Exciting Springing of Ships

open access: yesJournal of the Society of Naval Architects of Japan, 1976
Wave forces exciting springing of ships are investigated theoretically and experimentally in relation to ship-side waves herein. Ship-side waves around a ship with zero forward velocity in regular waves are calculated by applying the finite element method extended on the basis of Chen and Mei's theory for long waves, assuming that the effect of ship's ...
