Social Simulacra: Creating Populated Prototypes for Social Computing Systems [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Social computing prototypes probe the social behaviors that may arise in an envisioned system design. This prototyping practice is currently limited to recruiting small groups of people. Unfortunately, many challenges do not arise until a system is populated at a larger scale.

Spot‐14 and its paralog Spot‐14R regulate expression of metabolic and thermogenic pathway genes in murine brown and beige adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Spot‐14 and Spot‐14R play distinct roles in regulating metabolism in brown and beige adipocytes. While both influence lipid and glucose pathways, Spot‐14 uniquely controls thermogenic gene expression. This dual regulation balances energy storage and heat production, highlighting potential therapeutic targets for obesity and metabolic disorders. Spot 14

Social Network Integration: Towards Constructing the Social Graph [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
In this work, we formulate the problem of social network integration. It takes multiple observed social networks as input and returns an integrated global social graph where each node corresponds to a real person. The key challenge for social network integration is to discover the correspondences or interlinks across different social networks.

Investigation of how social media influenced the endsars protests in Lagos, Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The research assessed the role of social media in the unfolding of the EndSARS demonstrations in Nigeria. The study was necessary given the persistent call by governments for the strict regulation of social medium platforms. This is given governments' claim that social media is being misused.

A cellular system to study responses to a collision between the transcription complex and a protein‐bound nick in the DNA template

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present the cellular transcription‐coupled Flp‐nick system allowing the introduction of a Top1‐mimicking cleavage complex (Flpcc) at a Flp recognition target site within a controllable LacZ gene. LacZ transcription leads to the collision of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) with Flpcc, and this causes RNAPII stalling, ubiquitination, and degradation.

Hete-CF: Social-Based Collaborative Filtering Recommendation using Heterogeneous Relations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Collaborative filtering algorithms haven been widely used in recommender systems. However, they often suffer from the data sparsity and cold start problems. With the increasing popularity of social media, these problems may be solved by using social-based recommendation. Social-based recommendation, as an emerging research area, uses social information

Interaction vesicles as emerging mediators of host‐pathogen molecular crosstalk and their implications for infection dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interaction extracellular vesicles (iEVs) are hybrid vesicles formed through host‐pathogen communication. They facilitate immune evasion, transfer pathogens' molecules, increase host cell uptake, and enhance virulence. This Perspective article illustrates the multifunctional roles of iEVs and highlights their emerging relevance in infection dynamics ...
