A Comparative Study of Beauty and its Relation to Pleasure and Goodness in the Philosophy of Plotinus and Avicenna [PDF]

open access: yesآموزه‌‌های فلسفه اسلامي
The truth and nature of beauty, as a secondary intelligible (Arabic: مَعْقولُ الْثَّانی, romanized: maʿqūl al-thānī), have become a topic of discussion among philosophers.

Luz, iluminación y verdad en el De triplici via de San Buenaventura = Light, enlightenment and truth in De triplici via of Saint Bonaventure [PDF]

open access: yesActa Scientiarum. Education, 2012
La perspectiva jerárquica bonaventuriana sobre teología trinitaria es determinante para la comprensión de su orientación metafísica, porque permite subrayar los elementos de unidad y diversidad que forman parte constitutiva de toda explicación de las ...

Epistemic Vice Rehabilitation: Saints and Sinners Zetetic Exemplarism

open access: yesEducational Theory
This paper proposes a novel educational approach to epistemic vice rehabilitation. Its authors Gerry Dunne and Alkis Kotsonis note that, like Quassim Cassam, they remain optimistic about the possibility of improvement with regard to epistemic vice ...

Spinoza on Ingenium and Exemplarity: Some Consequences for Educational Theory

open access: yesStudies in the Philosophy of Education, 2020
This article turns to the neglected pedagogical concept of ingenium in order to address some shortcomings of the admiration–emulation model of Linda Zabzebski’s influential exemplarist moral theory.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

The moral fallibility of Spinoza’s exemplars: exploring the educational value of imperfect models of human behavior

open access: yes, 2020
While Spinoza stipulates an ideal moral person in the propositions on the ‘free man’ in Ethics IV, this account does not seem to be intended to function as a pedagogical tool of political relevance. Hence, it does not seem to correspond to the purpose of

Quantitative MRI Uncovers Subtle Cortical Damage in Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody‐Associated Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To determine whether myelin‐sensitive quantitative MRI reveals microstructural abnormalities in normal‐appearing cortex (NACtx) in myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody–associated disease (MOGAD), indicating that conventional MRI underestimates remission residual cortical injury.

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Combined Process‐ and Phase‐Field‐Simulation to Predict the Microstructure of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Based Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...
