Natural radioactivity and radon exhalation rate in Brazilian igneous rocks
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2011This paper reports the natural radioactivity of Brazilian igneous rocks that are used as dimension stones, following the trend of other studies on the evaluation of the risks to the human health caused by the rocks radioactivity as a consequence of their use as cover indoors. Gamma-ray spectrometry has been utilized to determine the (40)K, (226)Ra and (

Radon Exhalation Rate of Some Building Materials Used in Egypt
Environmental Geochemistry and Health, 2005Indoor radon has been recognized as one of the health hazards for mankind. Common building materials used for construction of houses, which are considered as one of the major sources of this gas in indoor environment, have been studied for exhalation rate of radon.

In situ measurements of thoron exhalation rate in Okinawa, Japan
Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2010Thoron exhalation rates from the ground surface were measured at 57 sites on Okinawa Island, Japan, using a ZnS(Ag) scintillation detector equipped with photomultiplier. The arithmetic means ± SD, median ± SD, minimum and maximum of the rates (unit: Bq m(-2) s(-1)) were estimated to be 1.9 ± 1.4, 1.6 ± 0.3, 0.04 and 6.2, respectively.

Influence of air stability and metabolic rate on exhaled flow
Indoor Air, 2014The characteristics of contaminant transport and dispersion of exhaled flow from a manikin are thoroughly studied in this article with respect to the influence of two important factors: air stability conditions and metabolic rates. Four cases with the combinations of stable and neutral conditions as well as lower (1.2 met) and higher (2 met) metabolic ...

Intercomparison on the measurement of the thoron exhalation rate from building materials.
Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2020Thoron (220Rn) exhalation from building materials has become increasingly recognized as a potential source for radiation exposure in dwellings. However, contrary to radon (222Rn), limited information on thoron exposure is available.

Measurement of radon exhalation rate from some building materials
International Journal of Radiation Applications and Instrumentation. Part D. Nuclear Tracks and Radiation Measurements, 1992Passive integrating CR-39 plastic track detectors were used to measure the radon exhalation rate from building materials used in our region. It was found that the radon exhalation rate varies from 12.6 to 169 mBq m-2 h-1 in 10 different building materials.

Revision for measuring radon exhalation rate in open loop
Journal of Instrumentation, 2013We propose a novel method for quickly measuring the radon exhalation rate in open loop. We first obtain the temporal variation of radon concentration in the internal cell of the RAD7 by analyzing the work principle of RAD7. We then obtain the temporal variation of radon concentration in the ventilation-type accumulation chamber when the effects of ...

Radon exhalation rate in south-east Sicily building materials
The European Physical Journal Special Topics, 2015One of the main contributions to indoor radon levels is given by the exhalation from building materials. For this reason we performed measurements of radon exhalation rate in materials commonly used in buildings of the eastern Sicily. The measurements were carried out by using solid state nuclear track detectors in diffusion chambers.

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 1992
By solving the diffusion equation for the axial-symmetric geometry of in situ radon exhalation measurements, the effect of the presence of the measuring device on the exhalation rate was determined. From analyses of the calculated growth curves of the radon concentration in the device it turned out that exhalation rates deduced from measurements ...
