Effect of cell retention techniques in Komagataella phaffii lab‐scale continuous processes

open access: yesBiotechnology Progress, EarlyView.
Abstract Perfusion technologies play a growing role in the implementation of continuous processes for biotherapeutics production in mammalian‐based manufacturing. However, their application to alternative production hosts is limited. Cell retention systems are of key importance for the efficiency of perfusion bioreactors.

Effect of different flue gas recirculation rates on low‐NOx combustion characteristics: A numerical simulation based on the combustion process of a gas boiler

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract NOx emissions from gas boilers severely impact the environment, and flue gas recirculation (FGR) technology can effectively reduce such emissions, yet the effects of different FGR rates on combustion performance and NOx formation remain unclear. This study thus used numerical simulation (via ANSYS Fluent, adopting the realizable k‐ε turbulence

Influence of the single EGR valve usability on development of the charge directed to individual cylinders of an internal combustion engine

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2017
Exhaust gas recirculation systems (EGR), aside to a catalytic converters, are nowadays widely used in piston internal combustion engines to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust gas.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation System

open access: yes, 2015
It is today undoubted that humans have to reduce their impacton the environment. Internal combustion engines, being the major power source in the transportation sector as well as inindividual transport, play an important role in the man-made emissions. While the mobility in the world is growing, it is important to reduce the emissions that result from ...

Economic and environmental implications of the development of UASB reactors in Mexico for sustainable industrial wastewater treatment

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract The objective of this work is to demonstrate that the inclusion of an up‐flow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB reactor) within an industrial wastewater treatment plant reduces the plant's investment and operating costs compared to a system based solely on conventional complete‐mix activated sludge (CMAS), operating under the same design principles ...

Making gas-CCS a commercial reality: The challenges of scaling up [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Significant reductions in CO2 emissions are required to limit the global temperature rise to 2°C. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a key enabling technology that can be applied to power generation and industrial processes to lower their carbon ...

Mass Exchange Flow Process in Side Channel Pumps: Effects of Different Geometrical Parameters

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Figure 1 shows the Mass Flow Exchange (MFE) in the impeller at z = 7.5 × 10−3 m at 1.0 Q/QBEP, operating point for impeller scheme 1 (IMP 1), and impeller scheme 2 (IMP 2). The flow begins to exit the impeller at the outer radius and enters at the inner and central radii. IMP 1 exhibits more flow in and out compared to IMP 2. ABSTRACT The functionality

Integrated Flue‐Gas Heat Recovery for Optimized Steam and Power Generation Using Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC): A Technical and Economic Assessment

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Integration of a steam cycle with an existing gas turbine increased efficiency from 32% to 51%, reducing fuel consumption by 21.4% and CO2 emissions by 18.6%. The modification generated USD 13.9 million annual savings and lowered the Levelized Cost of Energy to 38.7 USD/MWh, with a 3‐year payback.
