Abstract This chapter provides a wide class of mathematical problems which originates from the application of Maxwell’s differential equations to electromagnetic systems. Static, stationary, and transient problems are investigated for dielectrics or conductors with instantaneous response or with memory, subject to various boundary ...

Abstract We begin this chapter by asking the reader to review Picard’s method introduced in Chapter 1, with particular reference to its application to Volterra equations. This done, we may fairly speedily reach the essential core of the theory of ordinary differential equations: existence and uniqueness theorems. To see that this work is

Existence and Uniqueness Theorems
1992A set X equipped with a metric $$d:X \times X \to {R_ + }$$ which satisfies the conditions (the axioms of the metric) $$d\left( {x,y} \right) = 0 \Leftrightarrow x = y,\forall x,y \in X$$ (1) $$d\left( {x,y} \right) = d\left( {y,x} \right)\forall x,y \in X$$ (2) $$d\left( {x,z} \right) \leqslant d\left( {x,y} \right) + d ...

Existence and Uniqueness Results
1994Existence and uniqueness theorems play a very central part in the theory of partial differential equations, particularly in the context of mathematical physics. The well-posedness of a Cauchy or boundary value problem is of tantamount importance for the physical interpretation and/or practical application of the equation under consideration.

Existence and Uniqueness Results
1990In this chapter the existence of the Nash-Cournot equilibrium point in the multiproduct oligopoly game will be first investigated. Then on the basis of the general results special cases will be examined. These include models with product differentiation and the classical Cournot model.

Stability, existence and uniqueness
2009Abstract This chapter develops the stability theory needed for the existence of the classical partition. This is extended to quantum stability with emphasis on the physically important case of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics with Coulomb interactions. The existence and uniqueness of the thermodynamic limit is discussed in detail.
