Existence and uniqueness of optimal matrix scalings [PDF]

open access: yes[1992] Proceedings of the 31st IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 1995
The authors consider the optimal diagonal scaling problem for a complex \(n \times n\) matrix \(M\). Using the reformulation as a convex optimization problem, they show that the set of optimal diagonal scalings is nonempty and bounded if and only if \(M\) is irreducible.

Prevalence and Trajectory of Household Material Hardship Among Children With Advanced Cancer

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Families of children with advanced cancer living in poverty experience inferior outcomes including poor parent mental health and worse child quality of life. Household material hardship (HMH: food, housing, transportation, and/or utility insecurity) is a modifiable poverty exposure—and potential intervention target—that ...

Financial Burden Associated With Hospitalisation Among Families of Childhood Brain Tumours in Australia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Families of children with cancer experience significant financial strain, even with universal healthcare. Indirect costs, such as productivity losses and non‐medical expenses, are rarely included in economic evaluations, and little is known about how effectively financial aid programmes alleviate this burden. Childhood brain tumours

Inpatient Food Insecurity and Pediatric Hematology Oncology Hospitalization Outcomes

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Children with cancer and blood disorders are at risk for food insecurity (FI). We aimed to describe the association of inpatient food insecurity (IFI) and hospitalization outcomes among patients admitted to the pediatric hematology oncology service. Of 325 caregivers screened for IFI, 60 (18.6%) screened positive.

A non-linear hyperbolic equation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1980
In this paper the following Cauchy problem, in a Hilbert space H, is considered: (I+λA)u″+A2u+[α+M(|A12u|2)]Au=fu(0)=u0u′(0 ...

Generalized functional differential equations: existence and uniqueness of solutions

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2016
We study generalized nonlinear functional differential equations arising in various applications, for instance in the control theory, or if there is a need to incorporate impulsive and/or delay effects into the underlying system.

Codes and designs—existence and uniqueness

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 1991
This is a well written general survey concerning the usefulness of coding theory in proving existence and uniqueness results in design theory. The scope of the paper is limited, dealing significantly with only two examples. The coding theory aspects of the work of C. Lam, et. al. on the non-existence of a projective plane of order 10 is outlined.

Feasibility and Safety of High‐Dose Proton Re‐Irradiation in Recurrent Pediatric Central Nervous System Tumors: A Single‐Institution Retrospective Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tumors often recur despite multimodality therapy. Although re‐irradiation (re‐RT) has historically been limited by concerns for severe late toxicities, modern techniques have renewed interest in this approach. Proton therapy provides dosimetric advantages that may enable curative re‐treatment with

Semipositone elliptic equations in unbounded domains in R n $\mathbb{R}^{n}$

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems
We investigate a class of semipositone nonlinear elliptic boundary value problems in unbounded domains D of R n $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ , n ≥ 3 $n\geq 3$ . Under some mild-assumptions, we obtain the existence of a unique positive continuous solution and provide
