Keplerian Orbits and Dynamics of Exoplanets [PDF]
Understanding the consequences of the gravitational interaction between a star and a planet is fundamental to the study of exoplanets. The solution of the two-body problem shows that the planet moves in an elliptical path around the star and that each body moves in an ellipse about the common center of mass.

AbstractThis paper reviews the basic equations used in the study of the tidal variations of the rotational and orbital elements of a system formed by one star and one close-in planet as given by the creep tide theory and Darwin’s constant time lag (CTL) theory.

Detecting Exoplanet Transits with the Next Generation of X-Ray Telescopes
Detecting exoplanet transits at X-ray wavelengths would provide a window into the effects of high-energy irradiation on the upper atmospheres of planets.

Earth is the only planet known to harbor life and, as a result, the search for habitable and inhabited planets beyond the Solar System commonly focuses on analogs to our planet. However, Earth's atmosphere and surface environment have evolved substantially in the last 4.5 billion years.

Pulsating stars harbouring planets
Why bother with asteroseismology while studying exoplanets? There are several answers to this question. Asteroseismology and exoplanetary sciences have much in common and the synergy between the two opens up new aspects in both fields.

Exoplanet transmission spectra provide rich information about the chemical composition, clouds, and temperature structure of exoplanet atmospheres. Most exoplanet transmission spectra only span infrared wavelengths (≳1 μ m), which can preclude crucial ...

What asteroseismology can do for exoplanets
We describe three useful applications of asteroseismology in the context of exoplanet science: (1) the detailed characterisation of exoplanet host stars; (2) the measurement of stellar inclinations; and (3) the determination of orbital eccentricity from ...
