Dynamics of two-dimensionally arranged organocations in layered clay minerals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Layered clay minerals have two-dimensionally expanded spaces between their layers. Many kinds of species such as alkaline metal ions, water, organic ammonium ions and alcohols, etc., can be intercalated into the interlayer space of the clays without ...

Harnessing Phase Separation for the Development of High‐Performance Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogels are indispensable for the development of next‐generation bioelectronics, soft robotics, and biomedical devices, where their mechanical properties determine performance and reliability. Among strategies to enhance hydrogel mechanics, phase separation enables controlled heterogeneity resulting in gel networks that are reinforced by ...

Non-Linear Poisson-Boltzmann Theory of a Wigner-Seitz Model for Swollen Clays

open access: yes, 1999
Swollen stacks of finite-size disc-like Laponite clay platelets are investigated within a Wigner-Seitz cell model. Each cell is a cylinder containing a coaxial platelet at its centre, together with an overall charge-neutral distribution of microscopic co

Heterogeneity‐Guided Interlayer Tuning in Vermiculite‐MOF Membranes for Efficient Li+/Mg2+ Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Heterogeneity‐guided interlayer engineering is achieved by integrating porous MOF nanosheets into a 2D vermiculite laminate, reprogramming ion transport pathways. The resulting hybrid membranes combine sub‐nanoconfinement and charge heterogeneity, enabling accelerated Li+ transport and reinforced Mg2+ exclusion.

Acoustic evaluation of beam and pot slabs with lightweight regularization layers: a case study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The objective of this work is to evaluate the acoustic performance of beam and pot slabs with regularization layers made of lightweight concrete. The study consists on the analysis of the acoustic behaviour of three types of solutions, through the ...

Oxygen‐Driven Structural Reorganization by Trace Water Enabling Fast Li‐Ion Transport in a Pliable Solid Electrolyte

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Trace water is acting as a constructive mediator in 2LiCl–GaF3, markedly increasing ionic conductivity while reorganizing local coordination. Hydration creates localized Li+ solvation environments and partially dissociates ion pairs, enhancing Li‐ion mobility.

The Power of Unity: Collective Action and Smallholder Agricultural Performance in West Africa

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We analyze the impact of collective action through farmer‐based organizations (FBOs) on smallholders' farm performance and income inequality in Ghana, Benin, The Gambia, and Mali. We find that FBO membership increases cereal yield in Ghana and The Gambia, legume yield in Mali, ruminant numbers in Benin and The Gambia, and total farm income in ...
