Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Flat bands as a route to high-temperature superconductivity in graphite

open access: yes, 2015
Superconductivity is traditionally viewed as a low-temperature phenomenon. Within the BCS theory this is understood to result from the fact that the pairing of electrons takes place only close to the usually two-dimensional Fermi surface residing at a ...

Simple Method for the Preparation of Composites Based on PA6 and Partially Exfoliated Graphite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In the present work, the preparation of composite systems based on polyamide 6 (PA6) and exfoliated graphite was attempted by applying a simple procedure, which consists of a preliminary dispersion/exfoliation of graphite in the monomer, namely, ε ...

Corrosion and Process Analysis of a Preoxidized MgO Recyclate‐Based Cermet Anode in Laboratory‐Scale Na‐Cryolite Molten Salt Electrolysis of Aluminum at 1000°C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
EDX elemental map of the pre‐oxidized MgO–steel cermet anode cross section after electrolysis. The development of inert anodes for aluminum electrolysis remains challenging due to the high corrosivity of cryolite‐based melts at 950°C–1000°C. This study investigates the corrosion and process behavior of a carbon‐free MgO–steel cermet anode derived from ...

Thermal Properties and Characterization of n-Decanol-Capric Acid/Expanded Graphite/Boron Nitride for Thermal Energy Storage

open access: yesMedžiagotyra
To find a low temperature phase change material (PCM) that can be applied to the middle constant temperature chamber of the three chamber refrigerator, this study proposes a binary eutectic PCM of n-decanol and capric acid as a base liquid, expanded ...

The nature and strength of inter-layer binding in graphite

open access: yes, 2009
We computed the inter-layer bonding properties of graphite using an ab-initio many body theory. We carried out variational and diffusion quantum Monte Carlo calculations and found an equilibrium inter-layer binding energy in good agreement with most ...

Resistance Rapid Heating of Aluminum Coatings in an Extreme High Vacuum–Adequate Atmosphere for Hot Stamping

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The subject of this work is the development of a corrosion‐protective coating on steel sheets for form hardening. Rapid heating in an extreme high vacuum (XHV)‐adequate atmosphere is a useful method to prevent oxidation during alloying of 22MnB5 and aluminum to obtain a metallurgical bonding.

Effects of expanded graphite’s structural and elemental characteristics on its oil and heavy metal sorption properties

open access: yesScientific Reports
Expanded graphite has promising potential environmental applications due to its porous structure and oleophilic nature, which allow it to absorb large quantities of oil.

Analysis of Tribological Properties of Expanded Graphite—Alloy Steel Pair Under High Loads in Dry and Humid Conditions

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Expanded graphite significantly improves the tribological properties of materials in friction pairs, but there is a lack of research in the literature on its cooperation with metals and the effect of water on friction and wear mechanisms.

A new solid lubricant [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Friction and wear life studies on burnished films of the compound graphite fluoride have demonstrated its potential as a solid lubricant material. It is effective in moist air, dry air, or in dry argon at temperatures up to approximately 400 degrees ...
