Development of thermal energy storage cementitious composites (TESC) containing a novel paraffin/hydrophobic expanded perlite composite phase change material

open access: yes, 2017
This study demonstrates the development of thermal energy storage cementitious composites (TESCs) by integrating a form-stable phase change material (PCM) composite into cement matrix. The PCM composite was fabricated on paraffin and hydrophobic expanded

Synthesis and Evaluation of Zeolite Surface-Modified Perlite

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
Perlite is volcanic glass mainly composed of amorphous aluminum silicate, mainly composed SiO2 and Al2O3 with less impurities such as heavy metals. Amorphous (glassy) perlite is used in lightweight aggregate and insulation.

Functionally graded metal syntactic foam: Fabrication and mechanical properties

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2019
In this research study a novel functionally graded metal syntactic foam (FG-MSF) was manufactured using expanded perlite and activated carbon particles. A tailored arrangement of these fillers was infiltrated with ZA27 alloy in a single-step process. The

Reduced fertilization regimes could boost biocontrol service without reducing crop yield

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Fertilization level influences pest control effectiveness in tomato crops. High fertilization increases plant growth and aphid density but reduces the performance of the parasitoid Aphidius ervi. In contrast, the predator Adalia bipunctata maintains consistent aphid suppression regardless of fertilization regime.

Do aphid endosymbiotic bacteria influence parasitoid searching behaviour through changes in aphid honeydew production?

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
Hamiltonella defensa infection increases honeydew production in certain aphid genotypes, potentially modifying aphid feeding behaviour. Parasitoid wasps, Aphidius ervi, are more attracted to honeydew from H. defensa‐infected aphids; though larger honeydew amounts may slightly deter searching.

Examination Of Perlite-Polymer Interface Interactions in Polypropylene-Based Composites via Several Compatibilizers

open access: yesHittite Journal of Science and Engineering, 2023
The surface interaction between the polymer and the mineral additive is one of the most significant aspects influencing the efficiency of mineral-filled polymeric composites.

Electrorheological response of mesoporous expanded perlite particles

open access: yesMicroporous and Mesoporous Materials, 2017
Abstract In this study, chemical composition, structural and physical properties of expanded perlite (EP) were determined by particle size, apparent density, SEM-EDS and XRD measurements. Electrorheological (ER) properties of EP particles dispersed in silicone oil (SO) were fully investigated as a novel dry-based ER fluid.

Comparative efficacy and studies of mode of action of minerals from diatoms against three species of filth flies

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Mortality for diatomaceous earth was observed as early as 2 h after exposure with 50% and 90% mortality at 3.5 and 4.6 h (LT50 and LT90, respectively) for Musca domestica. The LT50 and LT90 increased when the size of the fly species increased (M. domestica to Cochliomyia macellaria to Sarcophaga bullata) and increased for all three from 50 to 70 ...

Thermal enhancement of paraffin/hydrophobic expanded perlite granular phase change composite using graphene nanoplatelets

open access: yes, 2018
Thermal performance of latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) systems is often limited by low thermal conductivity of phase change materials (PCMs), which reduces the heat transfer rate and energy storage efficiency.
