Optimising Parameters for Expanded Polystyrene Based Pod Production Using Taguchi Method

open access: yesMathematics, 2019
Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is used in the building and construction industry for insulation and under flooring purposes. The objective of the study is to investigate the impact of the application of the total quality management (TQM) technique on the ...

Helix Alignment, Chevrons, and Edge Dislocations in Twist‐Bend Ferroelectric Nematics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The recently discovered twist‐bend ferroelectric nematic (NTBF) is the new member of the multiferroic family, representing a fluid with an oblique helicoidal (heliconical) periodic structure of spontaneous electric polarization. The work presents a thorough exploration of the material properties of this phase, how the periodic modulation of ...

Mechanostimulatory Cues Determine Intestinal Fibroblast Fate and Profibrotic Remodeling in a Physiodynamic Human Gut‐on‐a‐Chip

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A healthy gut barrier shields underlying fibroblasts from luminal shear forces, illustrating that “good fences make good neighbors.” Barrier damage exposes fibroblasts to shear stress, inducing cell death and the emergence of stress‐adapted, profibrotic fibroblasts. Sustained shear exposure promotes the formation of stiff aggregates of mechanoadapative

Pholidota‐Inspired Electronic Skin Possessing Terahertz‐Wave Reflection–Absorption–Transmission Switchability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The pholidota‐inspired electronic skin is successfully constructed, originally realized four‐state reversible switching of terahertz‐wave reflection, absorption, transmission, and secondary reflection. In response to external demands, it issues deformation instructions, verifies the deformation state after the equipment executes the action, and thus ...

A Bioinspired Three‐Dimensional High‐Curvature Nano‐Interface Integrated Microfluidic Chip for Small Extracellular Vesicles Enrichment and Machine Learning‐Assisted Prostate Cancer Precision Diagnosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biotin‐modified artificial insertion peptide functionalized three‐dimensional high‐curvature‐TiO2 nano‐interface was engineered in a microfluidic chip to improve the isolation efficiency of small extracellular vesicles (sEVs). This chip balanced affinity, releasability, and extendibility, enabling high‐throughput recovery of sEVs for downstream ...

Self-compacting mortar overlays using expanded polystyrene beads for thermal performance and energy efficiency in buildings

open access: yesReviews on Advanced Materials Science
This study presents a novel approach for building thermal retrofitting using self-compacting mortar overlays (SCMO) incorporating low-volume expanded polystyrene beads (EPSBs). Unlike previous high-volume EPSBs concrete applications (20–80 % replacement),

Printable Conductive Hydrogels for Electrochemical Biosensing and Soft Bioelectronic Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Flexible, conductive hydrogels that integrate printability, mechanical tunability, biocompatibility, and electronic performance remain challenging to achieve. Here, we develop 3D‐printable poly(ethylene glycol)–poly(pyrrole)‐ hydrogels with tissue‐like mechanics, high cytocompatibility, and robust electrochemical function.

A Study On Mechanical Properties Of Concrete By Replacing Aggregate With Expanded Polystyrene Beads

open access: yes, 2016
Artificial light weight aggregate produced from environmental waste like Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), is a workable new source of structural aggregate material. The use of light weight concrete permits greater design flexibility and considerable cost savings, reduced dead load.

Mechanical properties of concrete containing palm oil fuel ash and modified expanded polystyrene beads as replacement materials using finite element method

open access: yes, 2020
Nowadays, so much waste material was dumped and produced by the industrial sector. In this research, the Palm Oil Fuel Ash (POFA) and Modified Expanded Polystyrene beads (EPS) were used as replacement material.

A Circuit of Mechanically Regulated Transcription Factors Balances Regenerative and Fibrotic Memory of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Producing MSCs on rigid culture substrates induces a scar‐making phenotype, jeapordizing therapeutic success. ‘Tissue‐soft’ surfaces prevent MSC fibrogenesis and preserve regenerative traits. An epigenetic network, driven by HOXA11 and SALL1, maintains ‘soft memory’ by keeping chromatin open in relaxed MSCs, promoting anti‐fibrotic programs.
