Additive Manufacturing and Characterization of Polystyrene for Thermal Insulation Applications

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 311, Issue 4, April 2026.
Material Extrusion Additive Manufacturing (MEAM) is proposed to fabricate custom atactic Polystyrene (aPS) panels for thermal insulation. By controlling the internal octahedral lattice structure, the optimized process enables the production of parts with a thermal conductivity of 0.03 W/(mK).

Material Development and Foam Extrusion Processing of Thermoplastic Starch‐Based Compounds

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, Volume 66, Issue 4, Page 2739-2751, April 2026.
Schematic representation of the project: a compound material based on thermoplastic starch and PBAT is developed for further processing in the foam extrusion process to achieve a flexible foam sheet with a low density and fine‐pored foam structure. ABSTRACT An investigation into the properties of starch‐based compounds is conducted to determine their ...

Micromechanical modelling of intracellular pressure-induced deformation of foams; application to expanded polystyrene

open access: yes, 1999
Expanded polystyrene (EPS) beads have a cellular microstructure with closed cell membranes made of polystyrene. After demoulding, the intracellular temperature and pressure decrease down to room temperature and to atmospheric pressure.

Neutral‐pH Electropolymerization of Aniline on Hierarchically Porous Laser‐Induced Graphene Electrodes for Dual Biosensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 11, Issue 5, 6 March 2026.
Neutral‐pH electropolymerization of aniline on laser‐induced graphene (LIG) produces stable, brush‐like polyaniline coatings without requiring acidic conditions. The resulting PANI–LIG electrodes exhibit enhanced electroactive surface area, efficient charge transfer, and dual sensing capability for β‐blockers and pH, providing a scalable platform ...
