The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

How initial price history influences expectation formation in multi-asset experimental markets: An exploratory case study

open access: yesEconomics and Business Review
We present an exploratory study on expectation formation in a controlled experimental setting. Participants predicted the prices of three risky assets, with their key information being the initial price history.

Heterogeneity and learning in inflation expectation formation: an empirical assessment [PDF]

open access: yes
Relying on Michigan Survey's monthly micro data on inflation expectations we try to determine the main features - in terms of sources and degree of heterogeneity - of inflation expectation formation over different phases of the business cycle.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Social and Economic Effects of Different Urban Renewal Projects on the Surrounding Settlements: An Evaluation on Bursa Küplüpınar Neighborhood

open access: yesProceedings of the International Conference of Contemporary Affairs in Architecture and Urbanism-ICCAUA
Today, many cities are experiencing transformation as a result of the chaotic structure brought about by growth. It is the physical, social, and economic inadequacies that accelerate/trigger the transformation and make it inevitable.

A Note on Business Cycle Accounting [PDF]

open access: yes
Chari, Kehoe and McGrattan (2007) (CKM) show that a large class of dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) models with various frictions and shocks is observationally equivalent to a benchmark real business cycle (RBC) model with correlated "wedges"

Forecast Failure, Expectations Formation and the Lucas Critique [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales d'Économie et de Statistique, 2002
Since forecast failure is due to unanticipated deterministic shifts, "sensible" agents should adopt "robust forecasting rules". In such a non-stationary world, causal variables can dominate non-causal in forecasting, so "rational expectations" do not have a sound basis: agents cannot know how all relevant information enters the data density at every ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Experience-based probabilities modulate expectations in a gender-coded artificial language

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2016
The current study combines artificial language learning with visual world eyetracking to investigate acquisition of representations associating spoken words and visual referents using morphologically complex pseudowords.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
