Rural-Urban Disparities in Animal-Source Food Demand and Welfare Losses during COVID-19 in Iran: A QUAIDS Approach [PDF]

open access: yesمجله اقتصاد و توسعه کشاورزی
The COVID-19 pandemic presented major global challenges, including a decline in per capita income growth across all income groups in 2020. The protein sector, particularly Animal-Source Foods (ASF) faced increased pressure on both supply and demand ...

A Biologically‐Architected Wear and Damage‐Resistant Nanoparticle Coating From the Radular Teeth of Cryptochiton stelleri

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The ultrahard teeth of mollusks that feed on rocky substrates contain a wear‐resistant coating on their surfaces consisting of densely packed mesocrystalline magnetic nanoparticles within an organic matrix. These coatings display significant hardness and toughness through their highly controlled mesocrystalline architectures.

From In‐Silico Optimized Microfabrication to Experimental Validation: Engineering a Tridimensional Epi‐Intraneural Interface

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An epi‐intraneural interface is developed through in silico optimization and a novel tridimensional microfabrication pipeline. The device integrates penetrating and epineural contacts on a flexible substrate. Mechanical, electrochemical, and in vivo testing in rat and pig reveal robust implantation, low‐threshold activation, and site‐dependent ...

Modelling tourism demand for South Africa: An almost ideal demand system approach

open access: yesJournal of Economic and Financial Sciences, 2013
This paper models tourism demand for South Africa from the UK and the USA, using an almost ideal demand system. An error-correction almost ideal demand system (EC-AIDS) is applied to quantify the responsiveness of UK and USA tourism demand for South ...

Aggregation and Other Biases in the Calculation of Consumer Elasticities for Models of Arbitrary Rank [PDF]

open access: yes
Consumer-related policy decisions often require analysis of aggregate responses or mean elasticities. However, in practice these mean elasticities are seldom used.

Sugar-sweetened beverages in Nigeria: Affordability and expenditure and price elasticities

open access: yes, 2021
This research examines how consumers in Nigeria respond to income and price changes of carbonated soft drinks (CSDs). I first analysed the trend in CSD and fruit juice affordability between 2005 and 2018. I subsequently estimated the own-price, cross-price and income elasticities of sugar, CSDs, chocolate drinks, milk and sachet water for Nigeria in ...

Switchable Supramolecular Adhesive by Tuning Interfacial Bonding and Modulus

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The supramolecular adhesive (HyDiP) shows reversible adhesion and recyclability. In the dehydrated state, it is dense, stiff (E ≈445 MPa), transparent, and provides strong bonding with adhesion strengths up to 4.65 MPa. In the hydrated state, it becomes porous, soft (E ≈0.11 MPa), and detaches easily, enabling sustainable high‐strength applications ...

A Rotterdam Application to International Trade in Fresh Apples: A Differential Approach

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, 1992
A Rotterdam import allocation model is used to fit import data for fresh apples in four importing markets important to U.S. apple exporters. Nested tests rejected homotheticity but could not reject homogeneity, symmetry, or separability among import ...
