Contrasting population genetic structures of freshwater eels (Anguilla marmorata, A. bicolor, A. mossambica) from Madagascar

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Freshwater eels (genus Anguilla) are of major biological and commercial interest due to their complex catadromous life cycle and as a high‐value fishery resource, but the biology of tropical species is still poorly understood. This study investigates the genetic integrity, diversity and population structure of three species of tropical eels ...

Anatomical description of the jaw muscles and theoretical bite force assessment in South American opossums using manual and digital dissection methods

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Manual and virtual dissections were employed to examine the masticatory muscle architecture and bite force of three South American marsupials. The organisation of the muscles differed between species, with predicted bite forces exceeding previous estimates.

Recentering Resource‐Based Livelihoods: Prosperity Beyond Extractivism and Pastoralism

open access: yesCanadian Review of Sociology/Revue canadienne de sociologie, Volume 63, Issue 4, November 2026.
ABSTRACT This research note, informed by qualitative fieldwork with resource harvesters in Nova Scotia, explores the effect of economic change and ecological crisis, the outcomes of rural development strategies, and demographic shifts that have shaped the province's rural areas in recent years.

Improving carbon modeling in aspen‐dominated forests: Lessons from CBM‐CFS3 evaluation against long‐term field data

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 6, September 2026.
Abstract Boreal forests cover a substantial portion of Canada's land base and play a central role in the national carbon budget through carbon storage and fluxes across multiple above‐ and belowground pools. The Carbon Budget Model of the Canadian Forest Sector (CBM‐CFS3) simulates and projects forest carbon dynamics under varying conditions and ...

Unearthing Forest History: Integrating Soil Charcoal Macrofossils and Pollen Reveals Delayed Forest Responses to Holocene Climatic Transitions in Boreal–Temperate Ecotone

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study reconstructs long‐term vegetation dynamics at the boreal–temperate forest ecotone in eastern Canada using soil charcoal, pollen records, and forest inventories. Results reveal a delayed expansion of thermophilous tree species and a late borealization of the landscape in relation to climate change, alongside recent stand‐scale shifts driven ...

Long‐term trends in greenness in the alpine zone of northeastern North America from remote sensing

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Alpine zones above treeline in the Appalachian Mountains and adjacent ranges of northeastern North America support distinctive ecological communities that thrive where conditions are too harsh for trees to grow. These communities differ from alpine zones elsewhere on the continent and are a regionally important source of floristic biodiversity,

Spatial and Temporal Variation in Drivers of Saltmarsh Eco‐Geomorphic Evolution: Field Insights From the St. Lawrence Estuary, Canada

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 9, September 2026.
Field campaigns establish a novel hydro‐eco‐geomorphic database for St. Lawrence Estuary saltmarshes; foundations to predict ecosystem evolution in an understudied region. Documented spatial and temporal variability in vegetation traits, inundation dynamics and sediment supply warrants further investigation in saltmarsh modelling frameworks.

Comment on “Parameterizations of Clinopyroxene—Melt Trace Element Partition Coefficients” by Bédard, J. H. (2014)

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract A better understanding of how trace element partition coefficients vary with melt and mineral composition, temperature, pressure, oxygen fugacity and fluid composition is essential to geochemical modeling of magmatic rocks. The Nernst partition coefficient D is the ratio of the concentration (by weight) of a trace element in a solid phase ...

Indigenizing the Ledger: An Indigenous Pathway to Accounting « Autochtoniser » le grand livre : une voie autochtone vers la profession comptable

open access: yesAccounting Perspectives, Volume 25, Issue 3, Page 423-444, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Indigenous accountants are underrepresented in Canadian accounting practice and education despite ongoing educational and employment recruitment strategies. This article explores reasons why current Indigenous employment strategies seem not to be working by examining cultural chasms between Indigenous and Eurocentric worldviews.
