Chapter 4.11 Measuring rodent exploratory behavior
1999Publisher Summary This chapter presents an overview on measuring rodent exploratory behavior. Exploration generally refers to behaviors that are triggered off by novelty. It has been extensively studied using many test paradigms. The chapter illustrates that many explanations of this behavior have been proposed.

Prevention Measures and Exploratory Pharmacological Treatments of Celiac Disease
American Journal of Gastroenterology, 2010Increasing prevalence, protean clinical manifestations, and lack of pharmacological therapy make celiac disease (CD) a complex and highly relevant illness in gastroenterology. This chronic inflammatory disorder of the small intestine is caused by the ingestion of gluten containing cereals in genetically susceptible individuals, leading to a variety of ...

Exploratory Analysis of Ordinal Repeated Measures
1992A technique for exploring repeated measures of ordinal responses is developed. This technique uses an aural rather than a visual representation. It is shown that the resulting sound encoding system is well-suited to data of this type. The technique has been implemented in Apple Computer’s HyperCard, and examples of its use are given.

An Exploratory Investigation of Three Self-Other Orientation Measures
Journal of Personality Assessment, 1972Summary A new non-verbal, multidimensional approach to self-concept measurement (SOO tasks) was compared to one representative of the traditional verbal measurement approach. Both self-concept measures and an anxiety measure were administered to 25 boys and 23 girls.

Measuring potential fertility through null segments: An exploratory analysis
Social Biology, 1979Abstract Procedures are presented for estimating from null segments the natural fecundability of couples who may be practicing contraception. The procedures include an assessment of bias. Also presented is a new measure designed to bring out the implications for residual fertility of the pregnancy outcome probabilities and fecundability functions ...

An exploratory study measuring verbal order content and context
Quality and Safety in Health Care, 2009The use of verbal orders, while essential in some healthcare settings, has been identified as a potential contributor to poor quality and less safe care. Despite the widespread use of verbal orders, little research attention has been paid to understanding and measuring the content of verbal orders or variables related to the context in which verbal ...

Exploratory measurements of stationarity in the electrocardiogram
Proceedings of 16th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2002The exploratory approach to ECG analysis described here acts to: 1) free the analysis from underlying assumptions regarding signal distributions; 2) defines a generalized statistic-the prototype and a representation that is linear only in rank, not in signal space; and 3) defines a generalized notion of stationarity and similarity that is independent ...

Psychometric Properties of a Career Exploratory Outcome Expectations Measure
Journal of Career Assessment, 2015Social cognitive career theory and research are advanced by increasing attention to career outcome expectations and by applying this theory earlier in the life span. This article offers the career exploratory outcome expectations construct as a means of applying the more general construct of career outcome expectations during the childhood period and ...

Measuring Internal Service Quality: An Exploratory Study
2014The quality requirements of external, or end-user customers have been the focus of much research, but we rarely see systematic processes applied to understanding the quality requirements of internal customers. An internal customer is anyone within the organization with whom an employee has a job-related relationship.

Interestingness Measures for Exploratory Data Analysis: a Survey
Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) is the tedious activity of interactively analyzing a dataset to extract insights. Many approaches aiming at supporting EDA were recently proposed. They all rely on interestingness measures to score the importance of insights.Chanson, Alexandre +4 more
