Toward connecting core-collapse supernova theory with observations: I. Shock revival in a 15 Msun blue supergiant progenitor with SN 1987A energetics

open access: yes, 2014
We study the evolution of the collapsing core of a 15 Msun blue supergiant supernova progenitor from the core bounce until 1.5 seconds later. We present a sample of hydrodynamic models parameterized to match the explosion energetics of SN 1987A.

Age‐Related Characteristics of SYT1‐Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorder

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives We describe the clinical manifestations and developmental abilities of individuals with SYT1‐associated neurodevelopmental disorder (Baker‐Gordon syndrome) from infancy to adulthood. We further describe the neuroradiological and electrophysiological characteristics of the condition at different ages, and explore the associations ...

Effects of Different Safety Vent Bursting Pressures on Lithium-Ion Battery Thermal Runaway Process and Reaction Product Compositions

open access: yesEnergies
With the accelerated application of lithium-ion batteries, the design and optimization of their safety features have become increasingly important. However, the mechanisms by which different safety vent bursting pressures affect thermal runaway and its ...

Initiation of Infrasonic Geosphere Waves Caused by Explosive Eruption of Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haʻapai Volcano

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
The paper presents the results of processing recordings of abnormal signals, which originated during the eruption of Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haʻapai volcano, and were registered by a laser nanobarograph and two laser strainmeters; there were three meters of ...

The C-value enigma and timing of the Cambrian explosion

open access: yes, 2008
The Cambrian explosion is a grand challenge to science today and involves multidisciplinary study. This event is generally believed as a result of genetic innovations, environmental factors and ecological interactions, even though there are many ...

Flammability limits in flowing ethene-air-nitrogen mixtures: an experimental study [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
A large pilot plant was constructed to study the upper flammability limit of ethene-air-nitrogen mixtures under conditions of flow. The gas mixtures flowed through an explosion tube with a length of 3.0 m and a diameter of 21 mm.

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

Investigation of the Structural Strength of Existing Blast Walls in Well-Test Areas on Drillships

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
Blast walls are installed on the topside of offshore structures to reduce the damage from fire and explosion accidents. The blast walls on production platforms such as floating production storage, offloading, and floating production units undergo fire ...

Analysis of the Relationship between Selected Ship and Propulsion System Characteristics and the Risk of Main Engine Turbocharger Explosion

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
The scientific aim of this paper is to analyse the topicality of the turbocharger explosions and to attempt to answer the question of whether some technical characteristics of the engine can be perceived as directly connected with the risk of the ...

Type IIP Supernova 2009kf: Explosion Driven by Black Hole Accretion?

open access: yes, 2010
Unusually bright type IIP supernova (SN) 2009kf is studied employing the hydrodynamic modelling. We derived optimal values of the ejecta mass of 28.1 Msun, explosion energy of 2.2x10^{52} erg, and presupernova radius of 2x10^3 Rsun assuming that Ni-56 ...
