The Influence of Explosion Relief Vent Layouts on Explosion Overpressures in Large Biomass Storage Vessels

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2016
International standards for dust explosion relief design (NFPA 68 2013, EN 14491 2012, VDI 3673) have largely been developed for conventional bulk material handling silos with volumes of less than 10,000 m3, with empirical calculations being used to ...

Smart Nanotechnologies for Multimodal Neuromodulation and Brain Interfacing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Recent advances in smart nanotechnologies are expanding the toolbox for brain interfacing, from wireless neuromodulation and high‐resolution sensing to targeted delivery within the central nervous system. By combining responsive nanomaterials with bioinspired design, these platforms enable multimodal interactions with neurons and glia, while also ...

Limited applicability of gas explosion venting due to turbulence generation

open access: yes, 2011
For the design of gas explosion venting systems for confinements only little guidance is given when considering the constructional boundary conditions or process conditions.

Numerical simulation on the flame propagation in duct-vented gas explosion: The effect of duct length on the secondary explosion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Duct venting is the most recognized explosion protection technique used in the industry. However, the key problem with this technique is the appropriate design of the duct size for an effective release material to prevent the secondary explosion that can

Remote Magnetomechanical Neuromodulation Uncovers Therapeutic Mechanisms for Alleviating Parkinsonian Symptoms in Freely Moving Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Magnetomechanical neuromodulation using magnetic nanodiscs enables remote activation of neurons. In a hemiparkinsonian mouse model, alternating magnetic fields actuate the nanodiscs to generate torque that opens mechanosensitive ion channels within the subthalamic nucleus, thereby modulating basal ganglia motor circuitry.

High‐Power Terahertz Emission from Picosecond Nano‐Plasma Switching Driven by Secondary Electron Emission Avalanche

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A nano‐plasma device enables watt‐level on‐chip THz generation through picosecond switching triggered by secondary electron emission avalanche. An ultra‐dense electron sheet initiates nano‐plasma formation within a ∼100 nm gap, driving rapid energy release into an integrated resonator.

Simulation and experimental study of biogas explosion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Biogas is an attractive substitute to conventional petroleum fuels because they have the advantages of being very cheap and are renewable in nature, and thereby not contributing to the net atmospheric concentration of the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide ...

Microstructure Optimization of Na3SbS4/Na3Zr2Si2PO12 Composite Solid Electrolytes for Improving Cycling Stability in All‐Solid‐State Sodium Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This research demonstrates that incorporating 10 wt.% NASICON‐type Na3Zr2Si2PO12 into Na3SbS4 sulfide electrolytes mitigates interfacial instability and structural defects. The resulting composite enhances ionic conductivity to 3.97 * 10−4 S cm−1 and reduces activation energy.

Self‐Powered Bearing Sensing and Real‐Time Fault Diagnosis Enabled by Non‐Invasive Triboelectric Sensors and Edge AI Acceleration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study achieves the synergistic integration of self‐powered sensing and edge AI acceleration to establish a real‐time fault diagnosis system. The proposed TENG‐based self‐powered bearing sensor (NSE‐TBS) and FPGA‐accelerated edge AI framework fundamentally break through the inherent limitations of conventional monitoring systems, including complex ...

An Experimental Study on Safety-Relevant Parameters of Turbulent Gas Explosion Venting at Elevated Initial Pressure

open access: yes, 2012
The effects of a gas explosion in enclosures like vessels can be limited e.g. by gas explosion venting systems. The major design step of this constructive explosion protection method is to determine the required vent area, which depends significantly on ...
