Explosions and Outflows during Galaxy Formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We consider an explosion at the center of a halo which forms at the intersection of filaments inside a cosmological pancake, a convenient test-bed model for galaxy formation. ASPH/P3M simulations reveal that such explosions are anisotropic.

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

Studies of the Poltava seismic-tidal records during the period of explosions events in Balakliya and Kalynivka

open access: yesГеофизический журнал, 2019
The seismic-tidal records obtained at the Poltava gravimetric observatory of the IGF NAS of Ukraine (PGO) studied before, during and after events in Balaklija (March 22—23) and in Kalinovka (September 26—27) 2017 (explosions in ammunition dumps ...

The electrical signature of mafic explosive eruptions at Stromboli volcano, Italy

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Volcanic lightning is commonly observed in explosive volcanic eruptions of Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) > 2 and can be detected remotely providing real-time volcano monitoring information.

Dynamics of soliton explosions in a polarization-multiplexed ultrafast fiber laser

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2023
Soliton explosions are among the most striking soliton phenomena in nonlinear dissipative systems. In this regime, quasi-stable solitons suffer abrupt structural collapses and then recover to their original state.

Tiny Electromagnetic Explosions

open access: yes, 2017
This paper considers electromagnetic transients of a modest total energy (${\cal E} \gtrsim 10^{40}$ erg) and small initial size (${\cal R} \gtrsim 10^{-1}$ cm).

Aspherical Core-Collapse Supernovae in Red Supergiants Powered by Nonrelativistic Jets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We explore the observational characteristics of jet-driven supernovae by simulating bipolar-jet-driven explosions in a red supergiant progenitor. We present results of four models in which we hold the injected kinetic energy at a constant $10^{51}$ ergs ...

Patterns of Postictal Abnormalities in Relation to Status Epilepticus in Adults

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Abnormalities on peri‐ictal diffusion‐weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI‐PMAs) are well‐established for patients with status epilepticus (SE), but knowledge on patterns of DWI‐PMAs and their prognostic impact is sparse. Methods This systematic review and individual participant data meta‐analysis included observational studies ...

Breathing and Coughing: The Extraordinarily High Degassing of Popocatépetl Volcano Investigated With an SO2 Camera

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2018
How do lava domes release volcanic gases? Studying this problem is crucial to understand, and potentially anticipate, the generation of the sudden and dangerous explosive eruptions that frequently accompany dome extrusions.

Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy due to Biallelic Pathogenic Variants in PIGM

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective PIGM encodes a critical enzyme in the glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)‐anchor biosynthesis pathway. While promoter‐region mutations in PIGM have been associated with a relatively mild phenotype characterized by portal vein thrombosis and absence seizures, recent evidence suggests that coding‐region mutations result in a more severe
