Tendinous Tissue Adaptation to Explosive- vs. Sustained-Contraction Strength Training [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
The effect of different strength training regimes, and in particular training utilizing brief explosive contractions, on tendinous tissue properties is poorly understood. This study compared the efficacy of 12 weeks of knee extensor explosive-contraction (ECT; n = 14) vs. sustained-contraction (SCT; n = 15) strength training vs. a non-training control (

Laser Metal Deposition of Aluminum Alloys 7075 and 5083 with the Addition of Volatile Alloying Elements through Powder Blending

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser metal deposition of aluminum alloys EN AW‐7075 and EN AW‐5083, using powder blending to compensate zinc and magnesium evaporation. In situ alloying and ex situ alloying with ZnAl12 and AZ91 preserve near‐standard compositions and improve mechanical properties.

Electrical Conductivities of Conductors, Semiconductors, and Their Mixtures at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a comprehensive review of temperature‐dependent electrical conductivity data for multiple material classes at elevated temperatures, highlighting a persistent conductivity gap between metals and semiconductors in the range of 102$\left(10\right)^{2}$– 107$\left(10\right)^{7}$ S/m. Metal–ceramic irregular metamaterials are proposed

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...
