Determinant of export diversification
The main objective of this work is to identify the explanatory factors determining the diversification of exports in SADC countries during the period 1990-2018. Volatility and Diversification of Exports: Firm-Level Theory and Evidence [PDF]
We show using detailed firm-level Chinese data that, among small exporters, firms selling to a more diversified set of countries have more volatile exports, while the opposite holds among large exporters. This apriori surprising result for small firms is robust to a wide array of specifications and controls.

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?
