Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.

Moors on the coast... to four hundred years of expulsion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Partiendo de la base de que tampoco en los documentos históricos la versión «oficial» de los hechos coincide siempre ni necesariamente con la realidad y que el recurso a la propaganda para justificar lo que es difícil de explicar no es práctica exclusiva

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Chain expulsion out of dense polymer brushes

open access: yes, 2008
Langevin dynamics simulations are used to study the expulsion of single chains out of dense polymer brushes in a good solvent. The dynamic scaling model is able to correctly predict certain features of the expulsion process, but it fails to describe ...

Examination of Magnetic Plasma Expulsion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Magnetic plasma expulsion uses a magnetic field distortion to redirect incident charged particles around a certain area for the purposes of shielding.

The determinants of earlier extraction of IUD in women under rural health care centers, Babol

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ̒Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Bābul, 2003
Background and Objective: In using IUD as an intrauterine device, an important problem is earlier extraction, which reduces the rate of its efficacy. The objective of this study was to explain the determinants of earlier extraction of IUD.

Expulsion rates 12 months after early versus interval postpartum intrauterine device placement: a randomized trialAJOG Global Reports at a Glance

open access: yesAJOG Global Reports
Objective: The early postpartum period, 2 to 4 weeks postpartum, is an optimal time for intrauterine device (IUD) initiation; placement can be co-located with early postpartum or infant visits.

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Nanocrystalline Ni at Multiple Length‐Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of miniaturized in situ SEM fatigue setup and resultant fatigue crack growth data for nanocrystalline Ni. The presented study focuses on the analysis of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) in focused ion beam‐notched microcantilevers prepared from nanocrystalline (NC) Ni as a model material.

Soft Mechanical‐Electrical Logic Using Liquid Metal‐Filled 3D‐Printed Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present 3D‐printed soft mechanical–electrical logic elements that use liquid metal–filled silicone tubes actuated by thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) architectures to produce Boolean operations. Complementary normally open and normally closed unit cells perform repeatable binary transitions and can be combined into more complex ...
