The general theory of extinction of a-c. arcs is reviewed. The expulsion fuse is stated to depend upon the gas blast produced by rapid decomposition of fuse tube material under the heat of the arc. Comparison of interrupting capacities of a soapstone fuse tube and a fiber fuse tube supports this view.

Current Opinion in Urology, 2008
Minimally invasive therapies for urolithiasis including extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, ureteroscopy, and percutaneous nephrostolithotomy are highly efficacious, yet expensive. Medical expulsive therapy offers a cost-effective, nonsurgical approach for appropriate patients with ureteral stones.

The earliest defenders of the Expulsion and the many supporters of the notion of the Archbishop of Valencia's sainthood repeatedly applied themselves to the twin task of showing not only that the Holy See approved of the Moriscos' expulsion, but also that Rome had taken part in the decision.

THE EXPULSION protective gap consists of a fiber tube of proper bore and dimensions so arranged with an internal gap that lightning discharges are conducted within the tube and the power follow current is stopped through the expulsion action of the tube. Its action during interruption of follow current is similar to that of the expulsion fuse.

Entropic Expulsion in Vesicles
Physical Review Letters, 1995We report experimental observations and theoretical analysis of entropy driven expulsion in giant lipid vesicles, produced by the application of optical tweezers. The tweezers induce tension in membranes by attracting lipid material into the optical trap.

In Olaf Stapledon’s work (as we saw in the last chapter), light and darkness are both part of our human destiny. Utopia, or ‘near-utopia’, is no more than a passing phase in our journey towards a cosmic enlightenment that also reveals the inevitability of species extinction.
