CSR STORAGE METHOD OF EXTENDED FINITE ELEMENT STIFFNESS MATRIX

open access: yesJixie qiangdu, 2019
The extended finite element method( XFEM) is one of the most widely used numerical methods to deal with cracks, holes and inclusions. Based on the partition of unity method( PUM),the additional function terms are introduced to the displacement ...

Linear smoothed extended finite element method [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2017
SummaryThe extended finite element method was introduced in 1999 to treat problems involving discontinuities with no or minimal remeshing through appropriate enrichment functions. This enables elements to be split by a discontinuity, strong or weak, and hence requires the integration of discontinuous functions or functions with discontinuous ...

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

An extended mixed finite element method for elliptic interface problems

open access: yesComputers & Mathematics with Applications, 2022
In this paper, we propose an extended mixed finite element method for elliptic interface problems. By adding some stabilization terms, we present a mixed approximation form based on Brezzi-Douglas-Marini element space and the piecewise constant function space, and show that the discrete inf-sup constant is independent of how the interface intersects ...

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Fretting fatigue life prediction using the extended finite element method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this work, fretting fatigue tests available in the literature are modeled using the extended finite element method (XFEM). The aim is to numerically evaluate the stress intensity factors (SIFs) for cracks of different lengths emanating at the end of ...

Combined Process‐ and Phase‐Field‐Simulation to Predict the Microstructure of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Based Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...

The Extended-Stencil Finite Element Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
This dissertation introduces a novel finite element method called the extended-stencilfinite element method (ESFEM). The ESFEM uses conventional finite element meshes to produce moderately high order polynomial element interpolants.
