Extension agents or agents of change?
Annals of Anthropological Practice, 2015Global public health discourse and practice around community health workers (CHWs) often invoke two distinct ideal types: the CHW as an “extension agent” of biomedical health services, bringing health services into community and household settings, and the CHW as a progressive “agent of change,” working with communities to mobilize socially and ...

Practical extensions in agent programming languages
Proceedings of the 6th international joint conference on Autonomous agents and multiagent systems, 2007This paper proposes programming constructs to improve the practical application of existing BDI-based agent-oriented programming languages that have formal semantics. The proposed programming constructs include operations such as testing, adopting and dropping declarative goals, different execution modes for plans, repairing plans when their execution ...

An extensible agent toolkit for device management
2004 IEEE/IFIP Network Operations and Management Symposium (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37507), 2004The advent of multiple connected and interoperating devices is becoming almost common place in modern lifestyle. The management of these devices is an important asset for providing acceptable services to end users. Novel approaches are being developped that respect the communication, processing and power capacities of these limited devices.

Extensible soft semantic web services agent
Soft Computing, 2005Web services technology is critical for the success of business integration and other application fields such as bioinformatics. However, there are two challenges facing the practicality of Web services: (a) efficient location of the Web service registries that contain the requested Web services and (b) efficient retrieval of the requested services ...

An extensible framework for constructing SIP user agents
Bell Labs Technical Journal, 2004A Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) user agent is an endpoint in a signaling network that can send or receive SIP messages. One can build a functional user agent in a few hundred lines of Java∗ code that sets up a call between two SIP phones. However, such a user agent will not fully comply with the protocol. Writing a compliant user agent is a complex

An Adaptive, Maintainable, Extensible Process Agent
1999Intelligent agents should be autonomous, cooperative and adaptive. An intelligent multi-agent architecture for business process applications also supports maintenance and extensibility. Agent adaptivity is based on observations of the agent's environment, of the results of previous agent decisions, and of estimated reasons for those results being what ...

A Functional Language for Mobile Agents with Dynamic Extension
2004This paper presents a prototypical functional language for controlling intelligent robots. We have demonstrated that coordinated systems to control intelligent robots are effectively constructed by higherorder mobile agents. The system was built in Java language. We propose that such system can be described in a functional language.

Real-Time Extensions in Multi-agent Communication
2004The agent and multi-agent system paradigm has changed the development process of certain software systems. The technologies employed in multi-agent systems must be adapted for their correct utilization in real-time environments. The main deficiencies detected for the correct integration of these systems are examined in this article.
