The Astroneu Extensive Air Shower array

Journal of Instrumentation, 2020
Astroneu is an array of autonomous stations to detect Extensive Air Showers, which is deployed at the Hellenic Open University campus on the outskirts of Patras in western Greece. Currently 9 scintillators detectors and 3 Radio Frequency (RF) antennas have been installed and operated at the site.

Neutron multiplicity: Local hadronic showers and extensive air showers

Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Physics, 2011
A detailed analysis of events with neutron multiplicity M = 3−30 on neutron monitors (NMs) in Barentsburg (Spitsbergen), Baksan (North Caucasus), and Apatity (Murmansk region) is performed on the data obtained using a unique new data collection system.

EXTENSIVE AIR SHOWER CHARACTERISTICS AS FUNCTIONS OF SHOWER AGE

International Journal of Modern Physics A, 2005
We show that extensive air showers (EAS) are all very similar when described by shower age and Molière length unit. This allows to analyze fluorescence and Cherenkov light emitted by showers in a unified and simple way.

Extensive Air Showers

1961
The name of Extensive Air Showers (AS) is used to identify the chain of events that is initiated by a Cosmic Ray particle of ultra-relativistic energy interacting with air nuclei in the upper atmosphere.

Networks in extensive air showers

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2013
Abstract Extensive air showers are produced when high energy cosmic rays or γ -rays enter from the top of the atmosphere. Extensive air showers are multi-fractal in nature and in this paper we explore the topological properties of these showers.

Phenomenology of Extensive Air Showers

2001
Higher energy primary cosmic rays, when penetrating from the outer space into the Earth’s atmosphere initiate so-called Extensive Air Showers (EAS) by multiple particle production in the cascading interactions of the primary particle. This lecture presents the phenomenological features of the EAS development, the formation of the different shower ...

TIME VARIATIONS IN EXTENSIVE AIR SHOWERS

Canadian Journal of Physics, 1963
Anisotropies in time of energetic primary cosmic radiation are investigated by analyzing 280,000 air showers detected with an extensive-shower detector of 18 Geiger counters. Little evidence for a diurnal variation is seen in sidereal time while variations in solar time seem to be due to fluctuations in the data, not to any correlation with the ...

Extensive air showers in the classroom

European Journal of Physics, 2007
The basic properties of extensive air showers of particles produced in the interaction of a high-energy primary cosmic ray in the Earth's atmosphere are discussed in the context of educational cosmic ray projects involving undergraduate students and high-school teams.
