Extent of the Antarctic Continent
Science, 1959Group velocities of earthquake-generated Love and Rayleigh waves for certain transantarctic paths are abnormally high when compared with data from other continents. For these paths, the data indicate that at most only three-fourths of the antarctic ice sheet is underlain by continent, the remaining area being oceanic in structure.

Lisp and Symbolic Computation, 1993
Adding environments as first-class entities to a language can greatly enhance its expressiveness. But first-class environments rely on identifiers, the syntax of variables, and thus do not mesh well with lexically-scoped languages. We present first-class extents as an alternative.

The extent of the problem of obesity
The American Journal of Surgery, 2002The prevalence of obesity is increasing worldwide. In the United States, in 1999, 27% of adults had a body mass index >30 kg/m(2), almost double the prevalence of 20 years earlier. The estimated mortality from obesity-related diseases in the United States is approximately 300,000 annually and growing.

This paper studies local-control strategies to estimate the size of a certain event affecting an arbitrary connected subset of nodes in a network. For example, our algorithms allow nodes in a peer-to-peer system to explore the remaining connected components after a Denial-of-Service attack, or nodes in a sensor network to assess the magnitude of a ...

PurposeThe aim is to present a novel approach for tackling multi‐attribute decision problems with using concepts from grey system theory and the extent analysis method.Design/methodology/approachUnderlying judgment set of a multi‐attribute decision problem is modeled with employing grey numbers.

Extent of Partial Laryngectomies
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1985Clinical experience of laryngeal cancer gave a relatively better prognosis compared with cancer, in other locations in our field. Histological examinations of laryngeal cancer showed that in most of our cases the tumours had an even, microscopically localized growth. Serial sections in our cases confirmed this observation.

The Extent of Constructive Game Labellings
Journal of Logic and Computation, 2007We define a notion of combinatorial labellings, and show that Formula is the largest boldface pointclass in which every set admits a combinatorial labelling.

Sources and extent of pollution
Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B. Biological Sciences, 1979Abstract Before the sources and extent of pollution can be identified a definition of pollutants has to be agreed. The degree of disruption of natural cycles in the global ecosystem in terms of residence times and assimilation capacities must be assessed as a prerequisite of any system of control. The sources of man-made and naturally

The Extent of the Poliomyelitis Problem
JAMA, 1961THE PATTERN of occurrence of poliomyelitis in the United States has changed. In each succeeding year this change has become better defined. The disease is now concentrated among the unimmunized population, which we have failed to reach while we have all shared in the most intensive campaign of vaccination in the history of the United States.

A scoping review of the extent of the clinical research on the vitiligo extent score
Archives of Dermatological ResearchVitiligo is a chronic skin condition with no cure. Clinical assessment and treatment evaluation rely heavily on clinometry tools and expert knowledge. The Vitiligo Extent Score has been proposed as one of the most reliable and easy-to-use clinometry tools for vitiligo.
