Perception of movement extent depends on the extent of previous movements

open access: yesExperimental Brain Research, 2009
We report an aftereffect in perception of the extent (or degree or range) of joint movement, showing for the first time that a prolonged exposure to a passive back-and-forth movement of a certain extent results in a change in judgment of the extent of a subsequently presented movement.

The extent of informed consent [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery, 2007
During an urgent aneurysmectomy to treat impending rupture in an 86-year-old man, C. Atlas, a medical student, applied too much pressure when retracting the bowel, or the retractor was improperly padded, which created a 4-cm tear in the splenic hilum. The repair was complex but was completed satisfactorily, and the spleen was salvaged.
