Intravital imaging of the beating heart microcirculation in vivo has been challenging. The past 50 years has seen changes in ways to both stabilise and image the heart with a shift from learning about coronary vascular anatomy and physiology to the role of thromboinflammation and other microcirculatory disturbances in cardiovascular disease.

Surgical Complications for Oral Cavity Cancer: Evaluating Hospital Performance

In this population‐based cohort study, which included 2,266 patients, a complicated postoperative course occurred in 13.9% and varied from 2.7% to 31.1% between hospitals. After correction for case‐mix and treatment variables, significant hospital variation remained.

Anatomical variation of the aorta in the West of Scotland – A population with high cardiovascular disease burden. Implications for stent design and deployment

A population with a high cardiovascular disease burden was found to have a high degree of anatomical variation in the aortic arch (angulation from coronal plane, origin of the vertebral artery) and the abdominal aorta regions (high degree of taper, high number of collaterals and tortuous vessels).

Office‐Based Drainage of a Parapharyngeal Abscess with Surgeon‐Performed Transoral Ultrasound

This case report presents the use of transoral ultrasound as a novel imaging technique to diagnose and aspirate a parapharyngeal abscess (PPA) under local anesthesia in an outpatient setting. A parapharyngeal abscess (PPA) was diagnosed and aspirated under local anesthesia using transoral ultrasound by an ENT surgeon.
