Ultrasonography and external cephalic version at term
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1990Sixty-five patients with nonvertex presentations at term were evaluated by ultrasonography to determine which factors were associated with a successful external cephalic version. Amniotic fluid volume, placental localization, type of breech, position of the fetal spine, and whether the breech had descended were determined and analyzed by chi 2 analysis.

THE GENTLE ART OF EXTERNAL CEPHALIC VERSION
Obstetrical & Gynecological Survey, 1973Abstract Breech presentation and transverse lie are associated with rupture of the membranes, premature labor, prolapsed cord, and other fetal hazards. To reduce these risks, gentle external cephalic version was attempted for 860 single fetuses. The initial attempt succeeded in 781; subsequent attempts succeeded in 25.

Anesthetic Management of External Cephalic Version
Clinics in Perinatology, 2013Breech presentation is common at term and its reduction through external cephalic version represents a noninvasive opportunity to avoid cesarean delivery and the associated maternal morbidity. In addition to uterine relaxants, neuraxial anesthesia is associated with increased success of version procedures when surgical anesthetic dosing is used.
